29 January 2025- A man (61) was sentenced to five years imprisonment by the Upington Specialised Commercial Crime Court for theft. Johan Isaacs was arrested in October 2018 by the Upington based Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team.
The Hawks spokesperson in Northern Cape, Warrant Officer Nomthandazo Mnisi said Isaacs was appointed as an executor on the estate of his late brother. Mnisi said an amount of R323 773 was paid by Liberty into his account.
“He used the funds for his personal gain and did not distribute to the beneficiaries as obligated to do. He made numerous court appearances until his sentencing. The court sentenced him to five years direct imprisonment,” she said.
