A policeman arrested for attempted murder after allegedly shooting a civilian

26 December 2024- A police officer (34) is expected to appear in the Ganyesa Magistrate’s Court on 27 December 2024, for attempted murder. A police officer, who is a constable attached to Bray Police Station, was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday morning, 24 December 2024, in Ganyesa.

The North West police spokesperson, Colonel Adele Myburgh said the suspect was apprehended after he allegedly shot a victim (21) at a local tavern. Myburgh said the victim was rushed to a local hospital, where he was admitted in a serious condition.

“A 9mm pistol was seized and the matter was referred to the Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) for further investigation,” she said.

Meanwhile, The acting North West Police Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, welcomed the arrest and thanked the police for their continued efforts. Asaneng also reiterated that employees involved in criminal conduct will not be condoned in the service.

A motorist nabbed for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and culpable homicide

26 December 2024- A 29-YEAR-OLD motorist is expected to appear before the Brits Magistrate’s Court on 27 December 2022, facing culpable homicide and driving under the influence case. This comes after the motorist’s arrest by the police in Hartbeespoortdam on Wednesday late afternoon, 25 December 2024.

According to the North West police spokesperson, Colonel Adele Mybugh, the police were informed about a black Volkswagen Amarok bakkie that collided with a mother and two children in Kosmos at Simon Bekker Avenue in Hartbeespoortdam. Myburgh said at the accident scene, a girl (5) was certified dead by the Emergency and Medical Rescue Services (EMRS) paramedics.

“The second victim (22), who is the mother of the two children, was taken to a local hospital and admitted with serious head injuries and the third victim, who is a baby girl, was also admitted in hospital in a serious condition,” she said.

Myburgh further said suspect was immediately arrested and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or a drug with a narcotic effect and culpable homicide.

Meanwhile, the acting North West Police Commissioner, Major General Patrick Asaneng, warned motorists to refrain from drinking and driving as the police and other law enforcement agencies will not hesitate to enforce the National Road Traffic Act, 1996 (Act No. 93 of 1996), to ensure that those who transgress the law are dealt with accordingly as part of road safety management and Safer Festive operations.

Ten suspects arrested for dealing in drugs in Pampierstad

26 December 2024- Ten suspects aged between 22 and 42, were arrested in Pampierstad for allegedly dealing in suspected drugs and possession of suspected drugs. The suspects were arrested in collective efforts by Operation Vala Umgodi.

The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Molefi Shemane said the police followed up on intelligence-driven information regarding the alleged sale of drugs in different premises in Pampierstad on 25 December 2024. Shemane said the police allegedly seized a significant amount of drugs with an estimated street value of R 240 000 and cash believed to be the proceeds of drug sales.

“In a separate incident, two suspects aged 51 and 52, were arrested for dealing in suspected drugs. The Frances Baard District management thanked community members for continually providing valuable information that led to the arrest of the suspects and the removal of drugs from the streets.

“The police also encourage community members to report illegal mining and other related crimes to the police crime stop number on 08600 10111 or use the MySAPS app,” he said.
