A man sentenced to 10 years imprisonment for murder

A man (21) was sentenced to 10 years imprisonment by the Barkley West Regional Court for murder. On 4 October 2021, the victim had an argument with the accused, Ofentse Mnyasa at a local tavern and decided to walk away from him. Mnyasa followed the victim (19) outside, where he was seen assaulting him with a beer bottle and fled the scene.

The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Merapelo Pilane said the incident was reported to the police in Barkley West after the victim was transported to a local hospital, where he sadly succumbed to his injuries.

“Detective/Constable Kgosietsile Israel Taolo was tasked to investigate the case and through his meticulous work, the accused was successfully convicted and sentenced for the murder. Mnyasa was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.

“The police management in the Northern, Cape lauded the hard work of Detective Constable Taolo. The police are urging members of the community to avoid confrontations when intoxicated as it often leads to unwanted serious injuries or even death,” she said.
