A man (47) has been sentenced to 66 years imprisonment by the De Aar Regional Court for 13 counts of sexual offences. Coert Botha lured young boys between the ages of 9 and 14 to his residence and commit acts of sexual violation, including rape.
The Northern Cape police spokesperson, Sergeant Timothy Sam said, the police investigations led to more victims, that resulted in the arrest of the accused, who was then charged with 13 counts of sexual offences.
Sam said Botha was found guilty on all 13 charges and sentenced for rape, sexual violation, exposure and display of pornographic material, causing a child to witness self mastubation and attempt to commit an act of sexual violation.
“All counts will run concurrently and the accused’s name will be entered into the National Register for Sex Offenders and was declared unfit to possess a firearm,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Northern Cape Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Koliswa Otola, said they welcome the sentence handed over to Botha. Otola further said Notha committed the offences between September 2019 and April 2021.
“We would like to praise the Investigating and Prosecution team, Detective Sergeant Ilse Fan and Advocate Tevaughnay Van Wyk, for the thorough investigative work and presentation of the case.
“The police will remain relentless in ensuring that justice is served for victims of GBVF. The police also encourage the public to rate the police efforts in fighting crime by participating in the “RATE OUR SERVICE” online survey to assist the police in improving services” she added.
