North West MEC for Education, Viola Motsumi said her department is actively encouraging all parents and legal guardians to participate in the ongoing School Governing Body (SGB) elections, which began on 1 March 2024 and continue through until 31 March 2024. Motsumi said, while the department acknowledges the initial turnout, some schools have not reached their full potential.

However, she further said they remain optimistic that parents and guardians will actively engage in this crucial process.

ā€œThe SGB plays a vital role in school governance, managing finances, and implementing policies. Their involvement directly impacts the learning environment and student success. So, we encourage all parents and legal guardians to learn about the SGBs role and responsibilities.

ā€œThey should be well-informed about the candidates in their school, and exercise their voting rights on their chosen date before 31 March 2024. Every parent’s voice matters. Participating in the SGB elections demonstrates your commitment to your child’s education and ensures that, the school has the right leadership in place,ā€ said Motsumi.

She added that, together, they can create the best possible learning environment for the children. Motsumi also encouraged all stakeholders to actively participate in the SGB elections and make a positive impact on the future of the schools.
