Two men aged 19 and 21 are expected to appear before the Lehurutshe Magistrate’s Court on 15 January 2024 for murder. The suspects were arrested at Ntsweletsoku village, near Lehurutshe on Friday.

The North West police spokesperson, Brig Sabata Mokgwabone said the arrests came after a multi-disciplinary team comprising of Ngaka Modiri Molema District, Lehurutshe, Motswedi and Zeerust detectives and visible policing as well as Zeersut K9 made a follow up on two initiates, who were reported missing in Motswedi and Lehurutshe Police Stations in December 2023.

Mokgwabone said during the course of the investigations, the police found what appeared to be human skeleton bones in a plastic in the bushes, near Mosweu village.

“Further investigation into the matter, led to the arrest of the suspects, who were apparently in charge of the initiation school, where the boys allegedly died.

“The police investigations into the matter are underway and the police cannot rule out the possibility of linking the suspects to other cases, including contravention of the Customary Initiation Act, 2021,” he said.

Meanwhile, the North West Police Commissioner, Lieutenant General Sello Kwena, thanked the police for their tireless efforts to unmask and arrest those who transgress the law.
