Three men were arrested for allegedly stealing six cattle along the Mangope Highway in Lehurutshe, near Zeerust. Itireleng Lefutswe (41), Thapelo Matladi (27) and Omphile Lethoko (23) were arrested after they failed to give satisfactory account of the cattle.
North West police spokesperson, Captain Sam Tselanyane said the accused persons were apprehension by the Lehurutshe Stock Theft and Endangered Species (STES), Zeerust K9 and Lehurutshe Crime Prevention Units on 27 December 2023 at around 10:00. He said the police received a tip off regarding people who were allegedly seen brand marking the cattle at Ikageleng Section, outside Dinokana village near Zeerust.
“An observation was kept on the suspects until they loaded the cattle into a white Toyota Bakkie pulling a trailer. They briefly appeared at the Lehurutshe Magistrate’s Court on 28 December 2023 and granted a R1000 bail each.
“The two rightful owners of the six cattle valued at R80 000 were traced after ownerships were identified through their brand marks. Their case was postponed to 14 February 2024 and investigation into the matter continues,” said Tselanyane.
