Ten awaiting trial detainees escaped from Mogwase Police Holding Cells in Mogwase on Wednesday morning. The detainees who are between the ages of 18 and 56, allegedly escaped through the roof after cutting the mesh wire.

The North West police spokesperson, Brig Sabata Mokgwabone said Johannes Mogari Nowata, Katlego Nkitle, Omphemetse Moeng, Joseph Molefe, Tebogo Michael Langeni, Obvious Mlambo, Lebogang Mokotleng, Adonis Mpofu, Eric Mkhonazi and Tshiamo Mogale were at the time of the incident, facing charges ranging from house robbery, possession of suspected stolen goods, robbery aggravating, murder, attempted rape and burglary.

“The police have launched a manhunt and internal investigations regarding the incident have also been instituted. The members of the community are encouraged not to attempt to re-arrest the detainees as they are considered to be dangerous, but to contact the Investigating Officer, Captain Malope Mabula on 082 569 4887 or Crime Stop number on 08600 10111.

“Anonymous tip-offs can also be communicated via the MySAPS App from one’s smartphone,” he said.
