A woman sentenced to 12 years imprisonment for killing her boyfriend

A 43-YEAR-OLD woman sentenced to 12 years for killing her boyfriend in Fraserburg. On 5 March 2022 at around 4:30am, the body of Stefan Witbooi (28) was found with a stab wound to the chest. Northern Cape police spokesperson, Lieutenant Col Sergio Kock said, the police received a tip-off and arrested Ursula van Voight, who resides very close to the crime scene.

“The police opposed bail successfully and van Voight was sentenced to 12 years direct imprisonment by the Fraserburg Periodical Regional Court on 22 November 2023 for murder,” he said.

Meanwhile, the Namakwa District Police Commissioner, Brig Schalk Andrews, lauded the investigating officer D/Const Jan De Bruin and Const Heinrich Keyser of Fraserburg Visible Policing unit, who rendered assistance in the investigation to secure a successful conviction.

Andrews said that Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) still remains one of the top priorities for the police and they encourage victims, male and female to speak out against this heinous crime.

Public Hearings on Division of Revenue Amendment Bill to take place across North West

The Chairperson of North West Provincial Legislature’s Portfolio Committee on Premier, Finance, Cooperative Governance, Human Settlements and Traditional Affairs, Aaron Motswana said, they will be conducting a public hearing on the Division of Revenue Amendment Bill (B33 – 2023) at Thutlwane Community Hall in Thutlwane, Ratlou Local Municipality.

Motswana said the public hearings will also be held in Boskuil Community Hall in Boskuil, Maquassi Hills Local Municipality, Utlwanang Community Hall in Christiana, Lekwa Teemane Local Municipality, and Mabodisa Community Hall in Moruleng, Moses Kotane Local Municipality at 10h00.

“The Division of Revenue Amendment Bill (B33 – 2023) seeks to amend the Division of Revenue Act, 2023, in accordance with the Money Bills and Related Matters Act, 2009, and to provide for matters connected therewith.

“Relevant stakeholders have been invited to attend the public hearing. The public hearings will be streamed live on the North West Provincial Legislature Facebook page,” he said.
