A 39-year-old man is expected to appear at Zeerust Magistrate’s Court in Zeerust for ‘negligence handling’ of a firearm.
North West Community Safety and Transport Management spokesperson, Alpheus Koonyaditse said the man was arrested after he allegedly disrupted a meeting between the department and taxi drivers on Sunday.
“The man continuously disrupted the meeting. Initially, he refuted allegations that he had a firearm with him. It was later found out that he had the licensed 9mm firearm, and one magazine.
“He was arrested immediately for negligence handling and will appear at the Zeerust court on Monday. The meeting was to intervene between taxi operators travelling between Zeerust and Roodepoort in Gauteng,” Koonyaditse said.
He added that the meeting went well and ended amicably albeit regrettable incident of one of them being arrested.
