North West Department of Community Safety and Transport Management MEC, Sello Lehari said the traffic officer was trying to stop the taxi when the incident happened.

“He was run over and was immediately taken to the hospital. Six passengers from the taxi were injured and were also taken to the hospital. The incident happened around 4:50pm.

“We wish a speedy recovery to the officer and the injured passengers. It is regrettable that we have to start the year in such sad news,” Lehari said.

He once more implored on road users to be responsible and drive sensibly. The preliminary statistics show that the North West province is still about 29% less than the same period last year.
