TEN suspects aged between 29 and 42 years are expected to appear at the Mahikeng Magistrate court on Monday following their alleged involvement in a cash in transit robbery a week ago in Mahikeng.
The Hawks spokesperson, Brig Hangwani Mulaudzi said the North West Hawks’ cash in transit team assisted by Crime Intelligence and Mmabatho Flying Squad launched an intense manhunt after the suspects allegedly bombed an armoured vehicle, disarmed the security guards of three firearms and fled the scene with a sizable amount of money.
Mulaudzi said seven suspects were cornered in villages like Lomanyaneng, Magogoe and Matlhonyane outside Mahikeng, while other three were arrested in Itsoseng.
“Among those arrested, are the three security guards. Their alleged stolen firearms were found dumped in a nearby bush not far from the crime scene.
“The homes of the suspects were searched and some of the alleged stolen money was seized as well as two firearms and ammunition were also recovered while combing the houses,” he said.
The National Head of the Hawks Lieutenant General Godfrey Lebeya has applauded the prompt arrest by the integrated team.
