NEWLY-Appointed MEC for Social Development department, Hoffman Galeng will handover six low cost houses built by unemployed youth in Christiana and Itsoseng on Monday.

The department spokesperson, Petrus Siko said those youth underwent accredited training in Building and Civil Construction.
“About 200 unemployed young people from Tswaing, Lekwa-Teemane and Ratlou local municipalities have completed 12 month training and build low cost houses to destitute families in Sonder Water (Christiana), Itsoseng township and Madibogo as part of their practical exercise.
“They built a house for Steven Mokgoro who is a pensioner. Mokgoro’s shack was gutted by fire recently. He has been staying alone and survives with old age grant,” Siko said.
Another beneficiary, Steven Koloke who depend on odd jobs for survival, will also receive a new house. Siko added that the qualifications has been endorsed by SETA.
“The 200 learners is the first group of National Youth Service participants since its inception.  They have received a full qualification training  certificate  as opposed to statement of results which the previous learners received dating to 2012,” he said.
Siko further said National Youth Service programme, also known as NYS aims to improve youth employability through opportunities for work experience, skills development and support to gain access to economic and further learning opportunities.

First handover of houses : Christiana

Third handover of houses and distribution of sanitary pack to young girls in schools around Madibogo. Distribution of sanitary packs marks the closure of Women’s month.

Time : 09h00

Mayors, councillors  and dikgosi will be part the handover ceremonies of low cost houses and distribution of sanitary packs.
