TWO non-profit organisations from Taung benefited from Taung VW Polo Club during Easter holiday. The club coordinator, Leroy Molefe said it was imperative to donate food parcels and other belongings to deprived people.

“We have spent more than R4 300 to bring smiles on both founders of Obakeng Disability Centre in Manthe village and Boichoko Home in Rooiwaal village in Taung. This was a good initiative from our dedicated members. We believe that many lives of those underprivileged will change for the better.

“We are a dedicated 18 members of the team. The club was formed more than two years ago and we also invite those who own VW Polo across Taung to juncture with us too. We donate R100 every month to the club and the main aim is to assist as many charitable organisations as possible. We also encourage other stakeholders to donate in order for us to achieve more,” Molefe said.

Boichoko Home

Obakeng Disability Centre founder, Lasita Tong welcomed the donations. Tong said this was an amazing opportunity for her organisation.

“I am grateful about the donations. The donations will go a long way because we are taking care of more than 23 impaired children. Since I established the organisation back in 2001 and we operating in a small building. We cannot gratify many children as there is lack of resources.

“However, the Social Development department has assisted us with little they have. We urge more sponsors to come on board to build a bigger home for the needy. Transformation of otherwise empty lot into a safe and secure home is important. We need not to discriminate against those who live with disability, but give a tangible symbol of faithfulness and unconditional love to them,” she said.

Greater Taung is predominantly rural and most people continue to live in abject poverty.

Maologane gets a new school worth R28m

Maologane 2

BY KEDIBONE MOLAETSI

MAOLOGANE-based school will get new buildings to the tune of R28 million. The Ramotshodi Secondary School building project will be constructed by Anglo American Mines.

MEC for education and sport development, Sello Lehari did sod-turning at a new site allocated for the school on Wednesday. Lehari said that the school was prioritized by the Portfolio Committee of Education, Sports, Arts, Culture and Traditional Affairs last year due to its infrastructural challenges.

“The school had old buildings with cracks on the walls which posed danger to the safety of learners. The portfolio committee urged the department to urgently attend to the infrastructural needs of the school. The school used six mobile classrooms for learning since the permanent structures were old and dilapidated.

“Last year, one mobile classroom was blown off by the storm and due to vandalism some classrooms windows were broken. These incidents compromised quality education offered at the school,” he said.

Those who attended were Kgosi Nyalala Pilane (Bakgatla Ba Kgafela Traditional Authority), Mosimanegape Moleme (Chairman for Dikuno tsa Sechaba), Pauline Mokhutle (Director for Bojanala District), Itumeleng Tire (Chief Director for Infrastructure) and Patrick Morutlwa (General Manager for Amandelbult Mine).

The new buildings will constitute a palisade fence, guard house, parking place, paving, landscaping, 2 blocks of 8 classrooms, administration block, laboratory centre, water storage and reticulation system.

Dikuno Tsa Sechaba chairperson, Mosimanegape Moleme said: “We want to emphasise that at the end of the project there will be drawings of the school for other institutions those will be interested to develop the school.”

Bakgatla Ba Kgafela Traditional Authority leader, Kgosi Nyalala Pilane shared the same sentiments. Pilane said they welcome the project.

“This is a true blessing to our community of Maologane. This school will serve as a role model for development across all our villages. Unity and care from the community will be key towards the success of this project,” Pilane said.

The appointed contractor is expected to start with the construction of the new buildings on Wednesday, 19 April 2017.

Tourism N West dominates the 5th Annual Inter Tourism Games

BY REGINALD KANYANE

Lesotho: The North West Department of Tourism dominated the 5th Annual Inter Tourism games held over the Easter weekend in the capital of Lesetho, Maseru.

MEC for Tourism, Desbo Mohono said that her department emerged as an overall winner of this year’s Tourism games which were represented by tourism authorities from Botswana, South Africa, Swaziland and the host Lesotho.

“The games were mainly aimed at sharing best practices and showcasing each of the four countries’ potential in cementing existing and creating new partnerships among the SADC countries in the tourism industry.

“While sharing ideas and programmes among different tourism authorities, the games also ensure that Cultural Exchange and social cohesion are maintained within the participating countries,” Mohono said.

She further congratulated the North West Tourism Board Agency for representing the province and the country with aplomb during the games.

Mohono added that such games show that tourism knows no boundaries thus contributing immensely to the economic chain of that particular country.

“We share same culture, we drink same water from Katse Dam and the Vaal. We share many other resources, including electricity, we have our own people living in those other SADC countries and in that way it is clear that boarders are only a formality.

“My wish is for these games to make a big impact in marketing and ensuring that the SADC region in particular Bokone Bophirma becomes a preferred tourism destination recognised throughout Africa and the world at large,” she said.

Provincial Head of Department, Advocate Neo Sephoti emphasized the importance of such annual games.

Sephoti said these games bring the countries together and broaden minds as many get to learn a lot about different cultures and their practices.

“The games open doors for possible investors to endow and grow the tourism sorority as well as playing a significant role in allowing colleagues to network.

“We, as North West Tourism team are extremely honoured to be hosted by Lesotho and participate in the 2017 Inter Tourism Games.

“We managed to network with different individuals from miscellaneous milieu. That alone adds value to our mandate of promoting our province and country to the world,” she said.

Lesotho Tourism Development Corporation CEO, Mpaiphele Maqutu echoed Adv Sephoti’s sentiments.

Maqutu said tourism should be treated as a powerful tool of enhancing each other’s countries within the SADC region.

“Through these Inter Tourism Games, we should be able to identify each country’s strength and use that to grow one another as an amalgamation. If a tourist from overseas lands in North West Province in South Africa to see the big five, the tour operators should also give that tourist further information that there is a lot to see in the SADC region,” Maqutu said.
