BREAKING: Hawks arrest ‘coup plotter’ planning to assassinate prominent South Africans

The Hawks arrested a “coup plotter” on Wednesday who was allegedly planning to assassinate 19 people including members of the cabinet‚ state owned entities and prominent South Africans.
Those in the crosshairs were allegedly “officials perceived as state capture beneficiaries”‚ according to a statement issued late on Wednesday by Hawks spokesman Brigadier Hangwani Mulaudzi.

During October 2016 the Hawks intercepted communication related to “possible assassinations” being planned against various targets.

“The Hawks acted upon the information received and conducted undercover operations in Pretoria and Johannesburg which lead to the arrest of a 23-year-old African male for allegedly plotting to assassinate officials perceived as state capture beneficiaries. Almost 19 individuals were targeted and their names will only be divulged in court‚” said the statement.

“The suspect and a founder member of the Anti- State Capture Death Squad Alliance (ASCDSA) was arrested on the 26th April 2017 in Midrand while he was busy explaining to the donors how the assassination of state capture beneficiaries was going to be carried out by the undercover coup plot snipers.

“The communication intercepted by the investigators included various letters which were sent to selected companies to donate money at a total amount of one hundred and forty million rands (R140m) to fund the alleged clandestine operation.”

The statement went on to say that during the ongoing investigation another group‚ “the Anti-White Monopoly Capitalists Regime (AWMCG) surfaced” which necessitated a two-pronged investigation approach.

“It was discovered that the AWMCG used the same operandi soliciting donations in order to assassinate senior government officials and other South African citizens. Four individuals were allegedly targeted for this operation‚ their names will also be revealed in court. “A search was conducted at the suspects’ home and evidentiary proof was confiscated for further investigations. It further transpired that there were other companies he solicited funds from using same modus operandi.

“The suspect is expected to appear before Johannesburg Magistrate Court on Friday 28 April 2017 to face conspiracy to commit murder and other charges. Bail will be opposed to allow further investigation.

A number of houses and shops were burnt and looted during violent protests in the North West on Tuesday.

Additional police officers had to be deployed to the region.

Meanwhile, Peter Shalala has had his shop looted during the protest and says he lost everything.

“I don’t know if we can go on, hey. How do you replace everything that you’ve lost? It’s difficult.”

Police are investigating cases of arson after several shops in the area were burnt, with some homes also not spared in the violence.

It remains to be seen if protests will continue in the area on Wednesday.

1000s of day-old chicks burnt alive during Lichtenburg protests

Mahikeng – About 38 000 day-old chicks were killed when a truck was set alight during a service delivery protest in Lichtenburg on Friday.

Some of the chicks were thrown off the truck, and were then run over with another truck, Opti Chicks, the company that supplies them, said in a statement.

The NSPCA said its farm animal protection unit was deployed to the scene, but was recalled after being informed that no chicks survived.

“We emphasise that the suffering endured by these birds can hardly be imagined. It would have been agonising and prolonged. It was also totally unnecessary,” the organisation said in a statement on Monday.

Because there was no footage of the protest in which the perpetrators could be identified, an investigation into the cruelty would be complicated.

Netwerk24 reported that roads to and from the town were re-opened on Monday afternoon after more protest action in the morning. Residents of Blydeville are protesting for housing and better service delivery.

Roads to Ottosdal, Coligny and Sannieshof were blocked by protesters.

In Coligny, protesters looted a liquor store and stole cool drinks.

According to Netwerk24, the protesters are angry about the death of a 12-year-old child in a car accident last week. The circumstances surrounding the child’s death is still unclear.

27 die on North West roads

TWENTY-SEVEN people died in separate road accidents that happened across the province since the beginning of April.

The figure may be more given that some of the incidents may not have been officially recorded by the time of printing this article.

During the easter weekend alone, nine (9) people lost their lives, an increase from last year’s eight during the same period.

Community Safety and Transport Management MEC, Dr Mpho Motlhabane expressed concern that campaigns done to raise road safety awareness seem to be ignored.

“We have seen more increase on fatalities this year. Last year we had eight fatalities, while we are standing at nine just for the long weekend. Our preliminary investigations show that the province experienced 19 accidents with 27 fatalities, 18 serious and four slight injuries. Twenty three of these fatalities happened in a week between April 7 and 12,” he said.

The nine cases recorded during the easter weekend were mostly isolated incidents.

The worst accident recorded happened on April 8 along the Ottosdal/Wolmaransstad road where 13 people died after a taxi and a private vehicle collided head on.

Of the 13 who died, bodies of 11 people were burnt beyond recognition and need DNA tests to positively identify them.

Their funerals are expected to be held after a number of weeks as forensic pathologists are said to be busy with the identification process.

Most of the victims were coming from a church meeting in Mahikeng, going back to Wolmaransstad.

In Stilfontein, near Klerksdorp, four people died after their vehicle went out of the road and rolled several times on April 10.

ER24 paramedics who attended to the scene said that at the time of their arrival, they found four people lying about 10 to 15 meters away from the mangled vehicle.

MEC Motlhabane said that a number of traffic law violations were also recorded during the same period.

“We managed to stop and check more than 499 vehicles across the province for roadworthy. Forty seven summons were issued for traffic violations with monetary value at R38 500. Our police also managed to arrest a suspect for being in possession of suspected stolen 30 litres of diesel and 16 litres of petrol,” he said.

The MEC further said they conducted roadblocks in various high spot areas like Taung on N18, Delareyville, Zeerust and Klerksdorp.

In some instances, they found three unlicensed motor vehicles with others failing to display vehicle discs in Taung.

“One motorist was charged for overloading while impounded 9 vehicles in Delareyville. Ten taxi were travelling without permits, 14 other vehicles had no disc license. One motorist was fined for driving on barrier line, three fined for overloading and one failed to stop on the stop sign,” he said.

A total of 299 motorists were fined for various offences on the road, showing that drivers still need to comply.- Newsnote
