The unemployed youth in the Rustenburg and Mahikeng areas are urged to avoid falling victim to a scam led by a young lady who claims to have been appointed by the Office of the Premier through its Youth Entrepreneurship Services unit and the provincial department of Education and Sport Development to collect Curricula Vitae (CVs) of unemployed youth, who will purportedly be linked with the mines for training and skills development.

The lady, whose identity is known to Office of the Premier, and a team of her accomplice, target unsuspecting job seeking youth who are expected to each pay twenty-rand (R20.00) for submission of their CVs. 

The scam was exposed by the Ledig village traditional authority outside Rustenburg and the local councilors, who were also initially made to believe that the scammer was consistently in touch with and updating Premier Supra Mahumapelo of progress made in collecting the CVs.        

“We are not only concerned about misrepresentation of the image of the provincial government and in particular Office of the Premier, but we are mostly disturbed by the extent to which the name of Premier Mahumapelo is being misused in scamming the victims, and taking advantage of the vulnerable youth in our villages by creating false hopes”, said Brian Setswambung, the provincial spokesperson, adding that the provincial government vehemently distances itself from the work of this scam. 

“The provincial government will under no circumstances appoint service providers who in the cause of delivering the work appointed to do, will solicit money from members of the public, employed or not employed, rich or poor. We urge all to not fall prey to scammers. When in doubt, contact the 24 hours toll-free Setsokotsane Operation Centre on 0800 111 700, and seek information and guidance”, advised Setswambung.

The Office of the Premier is currently investigating the operations of this scam, as it is viewed as a criminal case.
