Wednesday will go down in South Africa’s history as the day good triumphed over bad, right over wrong, truth over secrecy; the day the ANC’s downfall became inevitable and South Africans realised: we’re going to be OK.

It was the moment it became clear that constitutional democracy, with its guarantees of a free press, freedom of speech, the rule of law and an independent judiciary, will triumph over the ANC’s politics of patronage, cadre deployment and corruption.

On Wednesday, ex-Public Protector Thuli Madonsela’s state capture report was released to the South African public. It confirmed what we already knew: the South African state is in the hands of a criminal syndicate who use it as their personal ATM. 

President Zuma and the Guptas head up a public-private partnership that has been stealing billions of rands from our national purse, money that could otherwise be spent on tackling poverty and unemployment.

Essentially, Ajay and Atul Gupta managed to gain control of President Zuma. Once they had him doing their bidding, they were able to control the appointment of cabinet ministers and top managers of state-owned enterprises and thereby influence the awarding of state and state-owned enterprise contracts.

ANC in North West will update the media on the decisions taken during PEC meeting.

Provincial secretary, Dakota Legoete said ANC’s Provincial Executive Committee (PEC) held an ordinary PEC meeting on Friday.

“The media briefing will be held at Kosmos Hall, Hartebeespoortdam at 10:00 am on Saturday,” Legoete said.

The Bokone Bophirima Provincial Government has established a Provincial Consequence Management Committee to deal with cases of unauthorized, irregular and fruitless expenditure as raised in the provincial Auditor General’s report.

This was pronounced by North West province Premier, Supra Mahumapelo on Thursday.

Mahumapelo said the committee will be constituted by experts in fields such as Legal, Audit and Finance, who are not government officials.

“Key to the committee’s responsibilities will be to investigate cases that lead the province to obtain negative audits, and make recommendations to the Premier to take action against officials engaging in non-compliance processes. It is high time that consequences for not using tax payers’ money well are put in place.

“We urge the media to also make it their responsibility to educate members of the public about the meaning of unauthorized, irregular and fruitless expenditure. These are often wrongly classified as acts of corruption. The provincial government will soon make public names of members of the newly established provincial consequence management committee,” he said.

THE Reduction of service delivery protests in Bokone Bophirima Province is a clear indication that there is improved dialogue between the provincial government and its community.

North West premier, Supra Mahumapelo said while addressing a media briefing at Rustenburg Recreational Centre on issues discussed and resolutions taken by Bokone Bophirima Executive Council (EXCO) recently.

Mahumapelo says while the level of service delivery satisfaction is increasing, there is still a need for the provincial government to attend to some outstanding issues such as construction of roads, provision and accessibility of healthcare services as well as creation of employment and skills development opportunities especially for the youth in the province’s villages, townships and small dorpies.

“The EXCO attributes this positive development to amongst others, the establishment of Setskotsane Operation Centres in all the districts of the province and Bua le Puso platforms which afford the public the opportunity to regularly engage with the provincial leaders on issues of service delivery.

“This will boost stability and social cohesion in the province. Moreover, we expect that from this month, all ward councilors will start convening the compulsory monthly community meetings. We want to ensure that our people are kept informed of service delivery issues affecting their wards.” he said,

Mahumapelo further urged communities to continue using available government platforms and community structures to raise service delivery issues. He said the Provincial EXCO has welcomed and supported the appointment of Cllr Fetsang Mokati, the Executive Mayor of Bojanala Platinum District Municipality, as the new provincial chairperson of SALGA.

KAGISANO-Molopo local municipality mayor, Bitsa Lenkopane will embark on a 15 day Marathon Programme and launch a Ward-Based Setsokotsane Forum. Lenkopane said she will also launch the Ward Planning Sessions, Reconciliation, Healing and Renewal Programme (RHR) and Business Chambers in every ward across the municipality.

“Those five concretes are ACT, Renewal, Healing and Reconciliation (RHR), Saamtrek-saamwerk, Setsokotsane and VTSD. These are the vision of the 5^th provincial administration coated with the Rebranding, Reposition and Renewal (RRR) policy.The launch is a swift response and implementation of these five Bokone Bophirima Provincial concretes that are aiming at growing VTSD economy.

“We also want to accelerate service delivery, renew the spirit of citizens and rebrand the province. We invite the media to cover this service delivery marathon project,” she said.
