CONDOLENCES messages continue to flock in amid the death of Taung-based businessman, Tsile Lazarus Oliphant. Dryharts-born man was involved in a head-on collision on Sunday morning at Ganyesa village in Morokweng, outside Vryburg.

North West police spokesperson, Lieutenant Col Pelonomi Makau said three people died in the car accident.

“Two vehicles were involved in a head-on collision and two people died on the scene. The other one died when he was ferried to Klerksdorp hospital. The deceased are Mosimanegape Ntwannwe, 27, from Ganyesa, Lazarus Tsile Oliphant, 33 and Ignatius Moetlediwa 31, both from Taung.”

Makau said two of the deceased were drivers and the other passengers were taken to different hospitals with serious injuries.

MEC for community safety and transport management department, Dr Mpho Motlhabane urged motorists to take cautious measures while on the roads. Motlhabane said the police are investigation a case of culpable homicide after the death of three people.

“We urge our people to take precaution measures while on the roads. We also urge the motorists to take a break after every two hours since we are experiencing heat wave. The heat could contribute to the sleepiness of motorists while driving. We cannot allow deaths on our roads as we are heading for festive season.

“Motorists also need to check their vehicles if they are road worthy. The roads can also be uncomfortable during this heat and contribute to tyre burst. Motorists also need to drive with correct following distance. We want to send our heartfelt condolences message to the loved ones of the deceased,” he said.

Motlhabane also added that overloading must be condemned. He said the first bakkies had 1o people while the other one had six.
