Northern Cape police spokesperson, Capt Sergio Kock said Lucas Rooibaatjie, 25 was stabbed by Katz at his house in Campbell after the two had an argument about the removal and disposal of a rock in the garden.

“Katz ran into the house and fetched a knife. He stabbed his cousin, Lucas Rooibaatjie once in the chest. The victim tried to flee from the attacker, but dropped and succumbed to his injuries metres from where he was stabbed.

“He died on the scene and the suspect was immediately arrested by police. The accused later appeared in the Douglas Regional Court where he received R500 bail,” Kock said.

Magistrate Vernon Smith sentenced Katz to 10-years-effective imprisonment on Tuesday.

The Pixley Ka Seme Cluster Commander, Brigadier Nomahlubi Sofika lauds Detective Constable Algene Mandisa Son of the Campbell Detectives unit for a job well done.

MEC Dr Motlhabane calls for peaceful protests

Bokone Bophirima Community Safety and Transport Management MEC, Dr Motlhabane calls for peaceful protests in the province and the country at large. This follows a number of protests that are been reported in the province.
Yesterday in Lehurutshe hundreds of learners were left stranded on their first day of school reopening for the last term of their 2016 schooling year when the roads were closed by protesters making it impossible for learners to access their taxi and bus transport.
Some learners were offloaded from taxis and prevented from going to school.
“This is so frustrating because some of us we are supposed to write a test for final preparatory examinations. They are so cruel, how can they just destroy our future like this. Denying us education like this won’t give them water,” said one of the stranded learners from Ramotshere Secondary School.
The protest still continues and the N4 road to Skilpardhek at the Dinokana area has since been closed yesterday together with the Swaartkopfontein road.
Motorists are advised to take alternative routes which are the Ramatlabama and Kopfontein border routes travelling to and from Botswana.
At the Mmabatho Nursing College the situation was also reportedly violent following the students protests. Properties are allegedly damaged at the college following these protests.
At the North West University, Mahikeng campus, police had to use rubber bullets to disperse an uncontrollable crowd.
MEC Dr Motlhabane said it is worrying to see how people are raising their concerns given that South Africa is a liberated country. “In the past years against apartheid this would’ve been understandable but in this era, it really amazes me on how people can be so unashamedly violent.
South Africa is a liberated country, we have better ways of raising our concerns since our government leadership is always on the ground and always available, our eyes and ears are on our people’s interest.
We humbly request our people to protest in a manner that enhances tenets of our democracy and within the provision of the constitution. Destroying of public and private property will not bring us water, will not bring us service delivery nor provide a settlement agreement for us regarding fees must fall. But through round table discussions and dialoques all these can swiftly be settled,” said Dr Motlhabane.

BY REGINALD KANYANE

GOLFERS from around the Bokone Bophirima province and neighbouring countries such as Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland will from this week participate in the first of its kind Small Dorpies Golf Challenge to be hosted by the provincial departments of Tourism, Education and Sport Development and the North West Development Corporation.

North West provincial government spomesperson, Brian Setswambung said the hosting of this unique golf challenge was pronounced by North West premier, Supra Mahumapelo in his State of the Province Address in February 2016.

“Mahumapelo said this initiative will go a long way in attracting tourism activities and unleashing small dorpies’ business and investment opportunities.

“Central to the Bokone Bophirima Small Dorpies Open Golf Challenge is to create opportunities that will change the economic landscape of the province with particular emphasis on small dorpies,” Setswambung said.

He added that this tournament serves as a build up to the 2016 Bokone Bophirima Small Dorpies Open Golf Challenge to be launched later in the current financial year.

“The small dorpies golf tournament which is held in line with the fifth administration’s five concretes, namely, growing the province’s economy through Agriculture, Culture and Tourism, developing the Villages, Townships and Small Dorpies economy, improving delivery of services through Setsokotsane, Reconciliation, Healing and Renewal, and the philosophy of Saamwerk-Saamtrek, will take place at Zeerust Golf Course   on  Tuesday,” he said.

How Bapo’s R616m was blown

Outgoing Public Protector Thuli Madonsela stunned the Bapo ba Mogale community yesterday by revealing how their mining royalties were plundered from over R617 million in 1995 to just over R700 000 today – with not much to show for it.

Madonsela said further investigation was needed to verify where and how millions were spent on a royal palace for the community’s chief in the platinum-rich area.

Kgosi Mogale’s palace, which was to initially cost R20 million, ended up costing about R80 million with approximately R68 million paid to consultants alone and R2.8 million spent on decor.

The community approached the Public Protector’s office in 2012 seeking answers about what happened to their bank balance in the past 20 years. The money was earned in royalties from mining giants, including Lonmin.

On her last visit to the area in July, Madonsela told community members they now had R721 000 to their name.

She explained the R617 million in their account in 1994 comprised R392 million in deposits and R224 million in interest. By 2014, she said, the balance had dropped to just over R495 000.

Madonsela said a team of experts would visit the palace to verify the actual work done against the amount reflected on the financial statements.

Madonsela was asked to investigate “allegations of systematic looting of the collective resources of the community, including funds held in the so-called
D-account [controlled by the North West government into which mining companies paid royalties for communities on whose land they operated]”.

The D-account has not been audited in 20 years.

Madonsela told residents that they were actually in debt after the Ba Mogale Investment Company borrowed R100 million from the Public Investment Commission. The community’s investment company received over R40 million in royalties since 2014, but most of it was spent “for administration purposes”.

The Public Protector’s office said that millions of the community’s money was spent paying administrators, consultants and suppliers for services such as catering.

“Other expenditure areas were allowances paid to tribal councillors and members of the royal family. In addition, funds were paid to universities and colleges as bursaries, and to book stores,” Madonsela said.

“The investigation will establish who the beneficiaries of these payments were, determine if procedures were followed and if there was value for money.”

Madonsela, whose term ends at the end of the week, urged the community to give her office until January to conclude the investigation and bring them all the answers.

Devastating: How Ronnie Kasrils describes Khwezi’s death

Former intelligence minister says the death of Fezekile Kuzwayo, the woman who accused President Jacob Zuma of rape, is a terrible tragedy

FORMER intelligence minister Ronnie Kasrils expressed sadness at the death of Fezekile Kuzwayo‚ known as Khwezi‚ the HIV-positive woman who accused President Jacob Zuma of rape in 2005.

She died on Saturday.

Zuma was acquitted of the charge in 2006.

“The news is absolutely devastating. It is a terrible tragedy. I spoke to her and her mother recently‚ and she was just getting her life together again‚” Kasrils told Radio 702.

Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association chairman Kebby Maphatsoe claimed Kasrils was behind the rape allegations against Zuma and that he sent her.

Maphatsoe apologised for the defamatory statement in August and agreed to pay Kasrils R500,000 when the defamation case brought by Kasrils was heard in the High Court in Pretoria in August.

In his defamation suit in August‚ Kasrils described knowing Khuzwayo from Swaziland in the early 1980s when she was about five years old.

Kasrils said he did not encounter Khuzwayo again until February 2005. After that February meeting‚ he did not have contact with Khwezi until he received a call from her on November 4 2005 at 10.40am.

“The voice said to me and the exact words were: ‘Uncle Ronnie‚ Jacob Zuma has raped me’ and I got the shock of my life‚” Kasrils said.

Kasrils said he had to be guarded in his reply‚ although he was very concerned about her wellbeing and her state of mind.

“I was guarded because the context of that time was one in which from Mr Jacob Zuma and his supporters‚ there was a growing‚ I would say‚ orchestration that a conspiracy was taking place against him.”

Kasrils said while he was concerned about her state of mind‚ he was also concerned about the state of play in the ANC during the time.

“I asked her whether she could substantiate her claim. I asked her if somebody else knew about it. She was very firm in claiming and making the allegation.

“I inquired of her why she phoned me and what did she expect from me‚ she said she did not expect anything‚ she wanted to inform me.”

In a statement on Sunday‚ her family described her as a loving soul. “A daughter‚ a sister and an aunt we will forever hold dear in our hearts. We loved her in life‚ let us never forget her after death‚” the family said in a statement.

Amajimbos disappointed with draw against China

South African u17 Men’s National Team, Amajimbos, is disappointed with the goalless draw against China in the BRICS u17 Football Cup currently underway in Goa, India.

South Africa and China met on Sunday, 9 October at the Bambolim Stadium.

Amajimbos created numerous scoring chances but failed to convert any, leaving them with four points after two matches while China managed to get their first point of the tournament after three games.

South Africa u17 striker Lyle Foster says the whole team is not happy with the result.

“As an individual I missed chances which on another day I would have easily buried, I am disappointed because I know I can do better. As for the entire team it was a huge disappointment to get only one point from the match because the players from China were very tired as this was their third match, and only our second, we should have taken advantage,” said Foster.

“But it happens in football where we create many chances but don’t convert. We did well except for the lack of goals. The opportunities were there, but the final touch, the decision making and finishing were just not there. It’s good to get a point than lose all three and in that way we don’t fall too far behind on the table as we are eyeing the final of this tournament.”

Amajimbos face Brazil on Tuesday, 11 October in a late match (it has been moved from afternoon to evening – 12h30 to 16h30 SA time).

Brazil has won their last two matches beating both China and Russia.

“I watched Brazil’s game against Russia on Sunday, they are a good team but if we apply the plan we have for them, if we implement it to perfection, then we will come out victorious. Should we beat Brazil and do the same with Russia then we will make it to the final. The draw against China may have derailed us but it hasn’t stopped us from going ahead with our mission of reaching the final,” added Foster.

“We need to make our mark in this tournament. Knowing we did not win the COSAFA CUP and did not beat Tanzania in the CAF Africa Youth Championship qualifiers, we would like to show that we missed out on those two competitions mainly because of our mistakes. This tournament as a whole is a great platform for any junior national teams, and we really appreciate being part of it. We just hope we can go all the way and lift the trophy.”

Brazil is top of the five-team table after collecting six points from two matches, followed by Russia who have also registered two wins from three games. South Africa is third with four points, while China lie fourth following their goalless draw against Amajimbos.

Hosts India are bottom of table with no points after two outings.

The tournament runs until Saturday, 15 October.

Vryburg missing girl’s murder case postponed

BY REGINALD KANYANE
A KIDNAPPING and murder case against Goitsemodimo Patrick Makoro, 34 was postponed by Vryburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Makoro was arrested a week after he allegedly kidnapped Nomthandazo Talakase, 4 from her home in Monotomosetlha Informal Settlements in Vryburg.

Nomthandazo was allegedly playing with her friends when she was kidnapped.

Her decomposed body was found in the veld after a week with a missing hand.

North West police said Nomthandazo went missing three weeks ago and her body was found by a shepard.

Police investigations led to Makoro’s arrest.

He appeared in Vryburg Magistrate’s Court on Monday and the case was postponed until Friday for bail application.

National Prosecuting Authority regional spokesperson, Frank Lesenyego said: “The case was postponed to give the accused more time to prepare for bail application argument.”
