MEC for community safety and transport management department, Dr Mpho Motlhabane encouraged executive managers, senior and middle management of the department to apply different tactics and leadership techniques for the department to achieve its strategic mandate.
Dr Motlhabane was speaking during his official opening of the department’s two-day strategic lekgotla held outside Phokeng, Rustenburg.
“There is a need for management to take difficult decisions on service delivery and sustain performance of the department. Success of any department in the main depends on its leadership and sustained commitment of the departmental leadership leads to its success. There are no shortcuts to success,” said Motlhabane.
He further outlined that it is important for the department to commit to its obligation of ensuring that all structures, institutions and communities play an active role in ensuring sustainable and improved service deliver.
“Stakeholder consultation is very key, government alone cannot win the fight against crime nor to provide effective and efficient transport systems as guided by the National Development Plan. We constantly need to work with our stakeholders and communities at large, our strategic plans and targets from this session must talk to consultative processes in order to reach and make a difference to the life of every South African citizen,” he said.
Dr Motlhabane said the strategic planning session is set to accord the departmental management an opportunity to review its performance and draft new strategic objectives for the 2017/18 fiscal year.
