Two people shot dead, others injured in Mayfair

Two people have been  killed and several others  were wounded  following a shoot-out in Mayfair , Johannesburg on Thursday.

Netcare 911 spokesperson, AthlendaMathe said it is not yet clear what the cause of the shooting was.

“Netcare911 paramedics  were  at the scene. People are advised to avoid this area. A large contingent of police officials are at the scene,” Mathe said.

Two injured in accident

TWO people have  sustained moderate injuries after a light motor vehicle collided with a truck on the R24 in Rustenburg on Thursday at around 05:30am.

Netcare 911 spokesperson, Athlenda Mathe said the reports from the scene indicated that the occupants of the truck were not injured.

“Netcare911 paramedics stabilised the injured man and woman  from the light motor vehicle on scene before transporting them to a nearby hospital for further medical care,” Mathe said.

MEC Motlhabane: ‘No success without difficult decisions’

MEC for community safety and transport management department, Dr Mpho Motlhabane encouraged executive managers, senior and middle management of the department to apply different tactics and leadership techniques for the department to achieve its strategic mandate.

Dr Motlhabane was speaking during his official opening of the department’s two-day strategic lekgotla held outside Phokeng, Rustenburg.

“There is a need for management to take difficult decisions on service delivery and sustain performance of the department. Success of any department in the main depends on its leadership and sustained commitment of the departmental leadership leads to its success. There are no shortcuts to success,” said Motlhabane.

He further outlined that it is important for the department to commit to its obligation of ensuring that all structures, institutions and communities play an active role in ensuring sustainable and improved service deliver.

“Stakeholder consultation is very key, government alone cannot win the fight against crime nor to provide effective and efficient transport systems as guided by the National Development Plan. We constantly need to work with our stakeholders and communities at large, our strategic plans and targets from this session must talk to consultative processes in order to reach and make a difference to the life of every South African citizen,” he said.

Dr Motlhabane said the strategic planning session is set to accord the departmental management an opportunity to review its performance and draft new strategic objectives for the 2017/18 fiscal year.
