IT’s all systems go at Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati district municipality. The beleaguered municipality scooped two Institute of Municipal Finance Officers IMFO awards recently showing some improvements.

The mayor at Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati district municipality, Boitumelo Mahlangu said they scooped Improved Municipality on Audit Outcome (IMOAO) and most Risk Management Function (RMF) awards respectively during Institute of Municipal Finance Officers’ Annual Conference (IMFO) 2016.

The event was held at the International Convention Centre, in Durban.

“The new administration is aiming to take the municipality to the greater heights. It is of paramount importance that both political and administrative arms must maintain the status quo and improve to the highest level.

“We will continue to pull together in one direction as guided by the philosophy of saamtrek-saamwerk initiative. We also want to obtain the first position,” Mahlangu said.

IMFO is the recognized professional body for finance, audit, risk management, performance management and related professionals in the public sector.

The Institute was founded in 1929, and is dedicated to establish and maintain high standards of professionalism among practitioners by providing a framework for them to collectively enhance, maintain sustainable financial management and good governance in the management of public finances.

It is rumoured “Heavy K”, real name Mkhululi Siqula, couldn’t hide his excitement after allegedly getting engaged to his girlfriend, Innocentia Morolong.

The producer, who is popularly known as the “Drumboss”, posted a picture on social media with the caption: I liked it & then putted (sic) a ring on it.

A source close to the couple said the proposal was long overdue.

“They started dating last year and since then, they’ve been all over each other. They’ve tried to keep their love life out of the spotlight, but it’s hard as they’re inseparable,” said the source.

The source said when Heavy K bought Innocentiahis new fiancee a car, it was clear the ring was next on the list.

Another source said Heavy K worships the ground Innocentia walks on.

Said the source: “He hasn’t been the same since they met and has hinted she’s the woman he’d spend the rest of his life with.”

Last year Sunday Sun reported they were lovers, but the couple denied it.

When called for comment, Innocentia couldn’t confirm or deny she was engaged.

She said: “That’s a thing I can’t comment on. Not in the bad way, I prefer not to talk about my love life.”

Heavy-K asked the SunTeam to send him an email, but he hadn’t replied at the time of going to press.

North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo and MEC for Rural, Environment and Agricultural Development (READ), Manketsi Tlhape together with the national Department of Rural Development and Land Reform (DRDLR) will launch Letsema Le Bolotse 2016 cropping season.

More than 240 farmers are set to benefit from the R38 million project aimed putting agriculture at the apex of economic development in the province. The READ department spokesperson, Tsholofelo Dintwe said this will also deal with the triple challenges of inequality, poverty and unemployment.

“Subsistence farmers in Ngaka Modiri Molema District will receive crop inputs for both Sunflower and Maize (Seed, Fertilizer, Chemicals and fuel) for 50ha each. The farmers are based in Tswaing Local Municipality (Manamolela, Klippan, Geysdorp, Marotse and Sannieshof). The Letsema Le Bolotse 2016 cropping season scheme/programme covers 10 000 hectares of land.

“In addition, 195 farmers will also benefit from a one hectare one household programme by the DRDLR. However the DRDLR has increased the land to between 10 hectares and 15 hectares instead of 1 hectare because of access of more land,” Dintwe said.

Furthermore, the department will host a Prayer for Rain Ceremony that will start at 7h00.

It is all systems go for North West Department of Social Development to observe International Day for Eradication of Poverty on Monday at Huhudi near Vryburg.

Social development MEC Fenny Gaolaolwe said 550 residents are expected to attend.

The theme for the observance of poverty eradication day is: “Moving from Humiliation and Exclusion to Participation:Ending Poverty  in all its forms.”

Gaolaolwe said: “International Day for the Eradication of Poverty presents us with an opportunity as  government and community leaders to reach out to poverty stricken households.”
As part of the activities of the day, Gaolaolwe said profiled households including residents from informal settlements will receive humanitarian assistance.

The observance of the day will also be coupled with Poverty eradication summit that is scheduled to take place on Monday afternoon and Tuesday in Vryburg. 

Gaolaolwe said the summit will focus on intervention measures that will help the residents rid themselves out of the cycle of poverty.

For years, Mzansi didn’t know her face, but her name is etched in our conscience.

TODAY SUNDAY SUN PAYS TRIBUTE TO THE FACE OF COURAGE.

The people of Mzansi will remember the short, sad life of Fezekile Ntsukela Kuzwayo – and  everything she stood for. She was brought up as a daughter of the struggle, who lived and died a fighter. She passed away in Jozi on 8 October at the age of 41, of Aids-related causes.

Khwezi, which means “star”, was the name used to protect her identity during the Zuma rape trial of 2006. Accusing her father’s struggle friend brought her nothing but humiliation and exile.

But the accused got off and went on to rule the land – even though he never shook off the cartoon “shawara” on his head.

He was ridiculed after telling the court he took a shower after intercourse with Khwezi, to protect himself from the HI
virus.

Fezekile had no protection from Zuma’s defence lawyers, who tried every dirty trick in the book.

They portrayed her as a woman of low morals, while a mob outside the court burned mphepho and sang Zuma’s theme song Awulethu Mshini Wami.

Later, arsonists burned down her mum’s house.

Fezekile and her mum, Beauty Kuzwayo, were forced out of SA and granted asylum by the Netherlands.

She lived on for 10 more years as a fighter for women’s rights and an HIV activist, and eventually returned to KwaMashu, where she lived a low-profile life in a rented room as a student teacher.

Her family said she had been suffering from an undisclosed complaint.

A public memorial service is planned for this week.

A family member said she would be laid to rest yesterday in a private service for family only.

Former intelligence minister, Ronnie Kasrils, was on Robben Island with Judson Kuzwayo, Fezekile’s late dad.

And Kasrils took MKMVA Umkhonto we Sizwe Military Veterans Association chairman, Kebby Maphatsoe, to court for defamation.

This after Maphatsoe had said Kasrils had arranged the rape charges against Zuma. Kasrils won the case and got R500 000.

He donated the money to Fezekile for her education, and also to help her mum, who is sick. – News24/IOL
