Local Government and Human Settlements in North West embarked in on a mission to ensure that home ownership came into practice when 10 elderly persons in Utlwanang and Boitumelong near Christiana were handed over title deeds recently.

MEC Fenny Gaolaolwe said over 1000 title deeds will be handed over to the rest of the beneficiaries in both areas.

“The title deeds not only serve as proof of ownership, but it can also be used as an asset to build wealth. We have prioritised the elderly because they have been waiting for a while. By so doing, we want to show them love, care and we have not forgotten them,” Gaolaolwe said.

One of the beneficiaries, Mtemi Mtshwawo, 91 said she could now sleep with ease knowing that she has full proof of ownership of the house she is currently sharing with her grandchildren.

“I am old and frail but I am now happy that my children have a place they can call home and have proof to that effect,” Mtshwawo said.
