GOLFERS from around the Bokone Bophirima province and neighbouring countries such as Botswana, Lesotho, Namibia and Swaziland will from this week participate in the first of its kind Small Dorpies Golf Challenge to be hosted by the provincial departments of Tourism, Education and Sport Development and the North West Development Corporation.

North West provincial government spomesperson, Brian Setswambung said the hosting of this unique golf challenge was pronounced by North West premier, Supra Mahumapelo in his State of the Province Address in February 2016.

“Mahumapelo said this initiative will go a long way in attracting tourism activities and unleashing small dorpies’ business and investment opportunities.

“Central to the Bokone Bophirima Small Dorpies Open Golf Challenge is to create opportunities that will change the economic landscape of the province with particular emphasis on small dorpies,” Setswambung said.

He added that this tournament serves as a build up to the 2016 Bokone Bophirima Small Dorpies Open Golf Challenge to be launched later in the current financial year.

“The small dorpies golf tournament which is held in line with the fifth administration’s five concretes, namely, growing the province’s economy through Agriculture, Culture and Tourism, developing the Villages, Townships and Small Dorpies economy, improving delivery of services through Setsokotsane, Reconciliation, Healing and Renewal, and the philosophy of Saamwerk-Saamtrek, will take place at Zeerust Golf Course   on  Tuesday,” he said.

Setswambung further said the golf tournament will also take place at Koster Golf Course  on Saturday and in Wolmaranstad Golf Course on Wednesday next week.

The tournament will end at Christiana Golf Course on Saturday, 22 October 2016.
