AKA on Mabala Noise and R20 million claims

The famous South African rapper has reportedly been in talks with Mabala Noise and is due to sign a contract by the end of this week.

It is alleged that the talks have been going on for some time and so far it has only been verbal agreements as Vth season and Mabala Noise have been in discussions over the amount to buy him out of his current contract

However, AKA, real name Kiernan Forbes has rubbished these claims when DRUM spoke to him.

He said he was very happy with his current recording label and he has no intention of leaving his current recording label, Vth Season.

“This is nothing but a rumor,” he said.

He further added that people went as far as saying that he will receive R20 million from Mabala Noise and this was news to him.

“Every week there is always something on the news about AKA, it’s just part of the territory,” says AKA.

The recording label owned by the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL)  national treasurer, Reggie Nkabinde made headlines last month, after Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema claimed that its artists were paid R5 million each.

‘ANCYL to deal with Boko Haram-style perpetrators on 3000 underage girls’

wp-1472440811539.jpg

The African National Congress Youth League calls for immediate intervention at Ratlou local municipality after 3000 girls underage were found to be pregnant.

ANCYL spokesperson, Mlondi Mkhize said the discovery was shocking. Mkhize further said some of these girls have had to drop out of school.

“These young girls have been forced into motherhood against their will. It is clear that they are still minors with their entire lives ahead of them. Even more shocking is that among these young girls, there is a 12-year-old who gave birth to a baby boy 6 months ago.

“It has always been our firmly held view, through the words of our forebears that a nation that does not take care of its youth does not deserve its future. This is more disgusting because the assessment by the Ministry of Social Development indicates that the culprits are older men that exploit the innocent young girls,” he said.

Mkhize added that older men had unprotected sex with underage girls and some going to the extent of being raped.

“It is only a sick society that harbours such acts of exploiting innocent young girls into having unprotected sex with them. The young girls fear for their well-being if they refuse. The buck also stops decisively on the doorstep of irresponsible parenting to allow the future of so many young girls to be taken away so brutally.

“It is our firmly held view that fathers must become responsible men. They must not open up young women to sexual exploitation. We equally call on mothers and sisters to stand strong in the fight against sexual abuse of young girls. No young girl asks to be sexually abused. We must be the first line of defense in protecting young girls because of their economic vulnerability and social exclusion,” he added.

Mkhize said they will have a meeting with minister of police to discuss this issue. He said they want to lobby the ministry to set up a task team to hunt down these elderly people who impregnated these young girls.

“We view this act as a criminal act that needs decisive action from government. We cannot have a Boko Haram-like situation unchecked haphazardly in our country. This gruesome act must be combated with the full might of the law.

North West social development spokesperson, Petrus Siko said the will bring intervention at the area.

“We will open rape cases against perpetrators and provide counselling to those affected teenagers. We will also build an early childhood development centre and make sure those girls return to school,” Siko said.

Deputy Minister, Hendrietta Bogopane-Zulu visited the area to address social-economic issues affecting the broader society. They were profiling 14 areas when they came across this issue.

More than 3000 underage girls were identified as mothers and it is alleged that they were impregnated by older men.

“We have 3000 underage girls impregnated out of 100 000 populations. We are not talking about those who are pregnant, but those who have children already. Some of them have two children at the age of 18. It clearly shows that there are some challenges that need to be addressed in this area.”

The presidency office also lambasted the perpetrators. The presidency representative, Bongani Khumalo said necessary actions must be taken.

“What we talking here is that children as young as 12 and 13 have children. It clearly says to us that people who impregnated these girls are actually guilty of statutory rape and must be charged,” Khumalo said.

North West police commissioner, Baile Motswenyane led the police task team for investigations. Motswenyane said they waiting for cases to be sent to the prosecutors to decide on any arrests.

“We have already opened dockets against suspects and we have sent them to prosecution directive in court. The matter will be decided by DPP for decision,” she said.

Nigerian army confirms death of Boko Haram leader Shekau

The Nigerian military on Thursday confirmed the death of Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau, Daily Post reports.

According to Major General Lucky Irabor, Commander of the Army’s Operation Lafiya Dole, the individual originally identified as Shekau had been killed, despite claims suggested that a second man bearing the same name was injured during air strikes just a few days prior.

A report released by The Sun early this week revealed that a man believed to be Shekau had been fatally injured following an airstrike conducted by security officials.

The airstrike, described as “spectacular”, was alleged to have claimed the lives of 300 Boko Haram militants hiding out in the northern areas of the west African state.

Videos

“I can confirm to you that the original Shekau was killed, the second Shekau was killed, and the man presenting himself as Shekau, I can also confirm to you that few days ago, he was wounded. We are yet to confirm whether he is dead or not,” Irabor was quoted as saying.

Irabor’s claims marked the latest in a series of announcements relating to the death of the Boko Haram leader, all of which have been proven false due to his re-emergence in videos released by the Islamist sect.

The Nigerian army insisted that Shekau had finally been killed.

The army maintained that it did not make announcements that were not based on facts.

Since his emergence in 2009, Shekau has been declared dead on several occasions, although the Nigerian army never solidly confirmed the claims, Naij reports.

Shekau took over as leader of the group after its founder, Mohammed Yusuf, was paraded before being executed in front of a crowd by army operatives.

Under his leadership, Boko Haram has slain thousands of civilians, while displacing over 2 million.

EFF stripped of right to sit in council meeting – Party women protest at dress code

Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) councillors undressed in public yesterday after they were told they could not enter the Mahikeng local council sitting wearing their party’s regalia.

Council speaker Pontsho Tabane said EFF councillors had to be locked out of the council sitting because they failed to obey the standing rules and orders of the council.

Tabane said the rules of the chamber were that female councillors must wear formal dress and male councillors a tie and jacket.

Council rules also require that councillors not wear canvas shoes, political party-promoting attire, hats and caps, and that their hair must always be combed .

All 12 EFF councillors arrived wearing their red regalia but were blocked by security guards who told them they were not allowed to enter the chamber.

The councillors argued that their regalia could be defined as formal dress. The women were wearing red dresses, while their male counterparts were wearing overalls with formal shoes and red and white shirts and ties.

Security guards had to push them out of the building after female members undressed and left wearing only their underwear.

“Okay, we will take off our clothes then. Just let us in, the council sitting is about to start,” the group said.

EFF regional secretary Neo Moroeng said the council would have to allow them to wear their regalia or they would take the matter to court.

“We are opening a case of harassment and assault with the police. Some of our female members were manhandled and touched on their breasts,” said Moroeng.

EFF council member Ouma Nkitsing said she felt insulted. “They cannot come and impose English laws on us. They could not even define the formal dress code,” she said.

She said after losing the battle with the bouncers, they decided to undress. “We felt that they will accept us if we wear our natural selves which is our best suits,” she said.

Nkitsing said she was unemployed before becoming a councillor and could not afford new clothes. “I cannot afford their expensive suits that their laws want us to wear, so wearing nothing is the cheapest clothes that I can wear.”

Another EFF councillor, Tumelo Phinda, said African women were not ashamed of their naked bodies. “In my tradition, women are allowed to wear Makgabe [traditional skirts with strings and beads] so I did not feel that there was something wrong to strip naked. It was also a form of expressing my disappointment with this council.

“I was voted by the public to represent them in council but I was denied my right to do so,” she said.

Phinda was one of the women allegedly manhandled. “The bouncer touched my bums and breasts. I felt cheap and disrespected. One of them held me between his legs while I was picking up my doek.” Yesterday she was nursing an injury on her right arm as a result of the fracas.

National EFF secretary general Godrich Gardee said it was unlawful for the council to deny entry to his party’s members. “They were just wearing red overalls and domestic workers’ uniform dresses without an emblem – that cannot be considered as party regalia,” Gardee said.

He said ANC councillors would fail if they tried to enforce a dress code. “That is the colonial decorum of white supremacy. It means they are saying workers’ clothes are not clothes. It is a demonstration of total disdain for workers.”

He said ANC councillors must focus on better things like service delivery rather than spending time on who is wearing what.

Tabane said the rules had to be applied. He said he held a meeting on Monday with the caucus of the EFF where he explained in detail the standing rules and orders of the council. He said EFF councillors had agreed that they would comply.”If the EFF members wanted to amend the rules they could do so using the appropriate procedures since they were the official opposition party, he said. “They can bring in a motion. Today they are grand-standing – we cannot allow that. They must respect the decorum of the house and the laws of this country. We cannot allow anarchy to prevail, that will eat up our democracy,” said Tabane.

“They do not make any impact. Out of 70 council members, ANC has 43. We can run the council without them, we don’t want to use our majority arrogance, we want to co-operate. But if they do not want to co-operate then we will show them that we are the ANC-led municipality.”

Mashaba announces starting 11 to face Mauritania

Bafana Bafana head coach Ephraim Shakes Mashaba has made five changes to the starting eleven that played against Gambia in the last 2017 Gabon Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.

South Africa won that match 4-0 earlier this year in June.

For the Mauritania clash Mashaba has retained the services of Itumeleng Khune in goals.

Tebogo Langerman and Ramahlwe Mphahlele also keep their places in defence, but there is a positional switch – Mphahlele makes way for Abbubaker Mobara at rightback, and will parther Thulani Hlatshwayo in central defence.

Hlatshwayo will lead the side as captain.

In the clash against Gambia, Rivaldo Coetzee and Eric Mathoho occupied the heart of defence but they are both out due to illness and injury respectively.

The midfield has also seen some changes with Mpho Makola and Maphosa Modiba coming starting ahead of Mandla Masango and Keagan Dolly.

Dolly has not been considered for the match as he is still nursing a hamstring injury, while Masango will start on the bench.

Central midfield personnel remain the same with Hlompho Kekana and Andile Jali continuing from the Gambia clash.

With no Thulani Serero from the last match, Sibusiso Vilakazi has been selected to partner Thamsanqa Gabuza upfront.

In the stands, Dolly will be sitting alongside Riyaad Pieterse, Denwin Farmer, Diamon Thopola, Deolin Mekoa, Thapelo Morena and Thabiso Kutumela

South Africa and Mauritania kicks off at 19h05 at Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

South Africa starting 11 vs Mauritania:
Itumeleng Khune (GK), Abbubaker Mobara, Tebogo Langerman, Ramahlwe Mphahlele, Thulani Hlatshwayo (C), Andile Jali, Hlompho Kekana, Mpho Makola, Maphosa Modiba, Sibusiso Vilakazi, Thamsanqa Gabuza.

“Ke Kopa Kuku” is not mine – Solly Moholo

South African famous gospel singer, Solly Moholo set the record straight on the allegations that he is behind the crude song that’s been making rounds on social media.

“’Ke Batla Kuku ( I Want P***y)’ is definitely not my song,” he told Daily Sun.

Social media had earlier suggested that Solly is the singer of the song. Many alleged that the song was recorded because he was suffering from mental illness and had been admitted to a mental hospital.

However the gospel singer has rubbished the claims, saying that those responsible for the song are out to get him.

“I have nothing to do with this song, I would never record such music, I would never release a song that looks down on anyone,” said Solly.

“They are jealous and they are trying to tarnish my name,” he told the paper.

He further confirmed that he was fit and healthy, he doesn’t remember the last time he visited hospital.

Dolly doubtful against Mauritania

Mamelodi Sundowns winger Keagan Dolly is unlikely to feature for Bafana Bafana against Mauritania in the final round of the 2017 Gabon Afria Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Dolly has missed training since his arrival in Nelspruit as he is undergoing treatment on his hamstring injury.

He was able to take part in the warm-up sessions on Wednesday and Thursday, but still did not get anywhere near the gruelling football sessions on both days.

“All the players are ready to play except Keagan Dolly who still has a problem with his hamstring. I don’t want to pre-empt but I had a chat with the team doctor and Dolly remains very doubtful to play against Mauritania. We may consider him for the
next match against Egypt but even then we don’t want to rush him, we want to give him time especially looking at the heavy schedule at his club,” said Bafana Bafana head coach Ephraim Shakes Mashaba.

But Mashaba is facing another big challenge.

“The boys were buzzing at training and we are sitting with a problem of who to play or not to play, but that’s a positive for us and we would rather have that than be with a group of players we are not happy with from what we have seen at training,”
added Mashaba.

After five matches, South Africa is third on the table in Group M with six points following one win, three draws and a loss. Cameroon leads the pack with 11 points with Mauritania four points adrift. Gambia is bottom of the table with just two
points.

While Bafana Bafana are out of the running for a spot in Gabon, Mashaba says he would like to finish the qualifiers on high. He is also aware that the visitors could pose a serious threat as they still stand a chance of qualifing for the 2017
African soccer showpiece.

“Yes, we would really like to end off with a win that will give us nine points in the qualifers which will still not take us anywhere. But we know very well that this will not be an easy game because Mauritania come here with high hopes of
qualifying. They will not be like sheep to slaugher but we are ready for them because we can see light at the end of the tunnel after what transpired at training,” said Mashaba.

Meanwhile goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune says the 3-1 loss South Africa South Africa suffered at the hands of Mauritania is water under the bridge.

In that same match, Khune’s error led to the first goal, but he has grown from it.

“I think that it is goalkepers’ lives to commit errors so you can learn from them. Since I committed that mistake I have grown a lot, and it has built my character. I believe I have improved as a goalkeeper because every game I play I don’t want to
make the same mistake,” says Khune.

The players says with the Mauritania match they are looking at the bigger picture because they  know they will not qualify for Gabon.

“All matches for the national team are important to us because as players we need to play our hearts out and make the country proud. Also, this is the prepration for the upcoming 2018 Russia FIFA World Cup qualifiers in October and November so we
can’t take anythig for granted. Our pride is at stake so we have to win not only for us but also in respect of those who have been supporting us, they deserve a great result and perfomance from the team,” added Khune.

The clash against Mauritania takes place on Friday, 2 September 2016 at the Mbombela Stadium in Nelspruit.

Kickoff is at 19h05.

PSL Player Due In Court For Attempted Murder

The South African Police Service (SAPS) confirmed to the Siya crew that a Premier Soccer League player has been arrested for allegedly stabbing someone with a knife.

In our investigation, the Siya crew has gathered that the player in question belongs to Free State Stars.

The player, whose identity is known to the Siya crew, was arrested on Wednesday (yesterday). He has been arrested regarding an incident that happened before one of the games for Ea Lla Koto, prior to the end of last season.

Police spokesperson in Bethlehem Capt. Zweli Mohobeleli confirmed that the player has been charged with attempted murder and is due to appear in court on Friday.

“A 22-year-old man was arrested yesterday for an attempted murder incident which occurred on 15 May 2016. He will appear in the Bethlehem Magistrate Court tomorrow (Friday),” said Mohobeleli.

Siya sources in Bethlehem area have confirmed that the accused was in the company of three of his teammates at the time, outside one of the local nightclubs on the night of the incident.

One of the other players is believed to have allegedly also played a role in the stabbing of a young man, and has since joined one a club in Gauteng.

“One of the players from Free State Stars has been arrested. He was arrested yesterday morning. He and his teammates allegedly stabbed some guy in Bethlehem. They (the players) were a group of four guys. The whole thing started with an argument about a girlfriend in one of the nightclubs in Bethlehem. The girlfriend belonged to one of the players. It turned out that on the night of the incident she went to the nightclub with some other guy and not the player. The soccer player wasn’t happy with that and he called his teammates and they allegedly attacked the guy. It was not a good incident to see. If you can see pictures of the guy who was stabbed you would cry. He had his intestines coming out of the stomach. They stabbed him multiple times all over his body. The incident happened after their (Stars’) game against (Orlando) Pirates (in May). There are people who have been trying to hide the incident and that’s why it has taken long to come out. But it has come out now because of the pressure from the community,” a source told the Siya crew.

The Siya crew has gathered that attempts are underway for the player in question to get application for bail.

Called for comment, the club’s management were not willing to make statements until they have further information on the matter.

‘Water crisis hits Dr Ruth Mompati’

Taung Dam

BY REGINALD KANYANE

LIMITED water resources have been experienced in Dr Ruth Segomotsi Mompati and Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipalities. Water and sanitation department spokesperson, Sputnik Ratau said there were short-lived rivers and dependence was largely on ground water.

“The province is drought stricken and experiences high temperatures during the summer season. This results in reservoir levels dropping and this puts the water resources under severe pressure. Due to the current climate patterns, high temperatures, the changing rainfall patterns and the increased occurrence of droughts, the province experienced below normal water levels in the Sehujwane, Marico-Bosveld, Kromellenboog, Swartruggens, Pella, Molatedi, Lindleyspoort and Koster dams.

“As a result, the North West water and sanitation’s provincial operations is calling on all citizens to use water sparingly. We have water availability challenges and demand will be high during these seasons for both domestic and agricultural use,” Ratau said.

He added that the best that could be done was to conserve this scarce resource. Ratau further said South Africa is ranked amongst the 30 driest countries in the world.

“Hence we urge everyone to take responsibility in water conservation to avoid future water crises. There is nothing that can be done without water, we drink it, we use it for food security, we do mining with it, we bath with it but somehow we always forget that it is a scarce resource and plays an important role in our daily lives,” he said.

“As we welcome spring and the summer seasons, we would like to remind our people that water is a scarce resource and should be conserved, respected and enjoyed. Water is key to our socio-economic development, without it, we cannot achieve our government priorities such as infrastructure development, food security and cannot produce food without water,” Ratau said.

He said the department and its key stakeholders will continue to implement various water resource reconciliation interventions in order to address the challenges faced by the water sector within the province.

“These include the development and implementation of Water Conservation/Water Demand Management intervention measures, augmentation from local water supplies, augmentation based on non-conventional methods, water transfers from other supply areas and water reallocation between and across sectors.”

Local govt denies DA’s payment claims

MEC Galaletsang Gaolaolwe Official photo

BY REGINALD KANYANE

LOCAL government and human settlements has noted the recent statement issued by the DA Chief Whip in the North West provincial legislature, Jacqueline Theologo and as indicated in the statement, will await her written request for some of the issues mentioned.

North West local government and human settlements department spokesperson, Ben Bole said officials from the Provincial Disaster Management Centre (PDMC) worked round the clock to ensure that the elections were incident free.

He said any other official, who worked during the elections, did so in their personal capacity.

“An indication that the department has had ‘’salary and bonus challenges’’ is not only malicious but also misleading. The duration of the department since it was established in 2014, has never experienced problems of paying employees their salaries, nor bonuses.

“Whilst is a fact that only 15 municipalities have had improved audit outcomes. The department has assembled a team of financial experts to work with municipalities to assist to achieve clean audits,” Bole said.
