MINISTER for Transport Minister, Dipuo Peters will officially launch the October Transport Month Campaign (OTM) on Saturday at Mmorogong village, near Tlhatlhaganyane.
The department spokesperson, Ishmael Mnisi said the campaign will be under the theme: “Together we move South Africa Forward”.
“The minister will launch the campaign by opening the P54/1 road between Matooster and Ruighoek which will link communities of Mmorogong and Tlhatlhaganyane villages.
“A 31km road was dilapidating and had to be rehabilitated. P54/1 is an essential economic road that also links Rustenburg and Pilanesberg areas via Ledig, Matooster and Ruighoek,” Mnisi said.
He added that the month-long OTM programme was officially launched back in 2005. Mnisi further said the aim was to showcase transport infrastructure projects, promote the use of public transport and advance the country’s road safety initiatives.
“This includes a 365 days road safety campaign aimed at promoting road safety. The minister will be accompanied by the North West provincial MECs for public works and roads, MEC Madoda Sambatha and MEC Dr Mpho Motlhabane for community safety and transport management department.
“CEOs of Transport State Owned Entities, key transport stakeholders and members of the community will also be part of the proceeding. The launch be at 9am,” he said.
