TWO suspects appeared at Kimberley Magistrate’s Court on Friday in connection with corruption. The Northern Cape Harks Anti-Corruption Investigation Unit swiftly acted on information and intercepted the two foreign nationals.
The Hawks provincial spokesperson, Capt Philani Nkwalase said two suspects allegedly approached two immigrant officers from the Home Affair department to release two of their friends arrested for being illegal immigrants.
“Alamin Mohammed (46) and Mohammed Samoun (41) were charged for contravention of immigration Act 13 of 2002 as amended Section 49 (1) (7) and 49 (1) (10). An amount of R12 000 was seized while effecting the arrest,” Nkwalase said.
The Hawks Provincial Head, Major General Kholekile Galawe commended the immigration officers for their commitment and selfless acts.
“We hope that all civil servants would emulate such commitment displayed by the two immigration officers. The case was postponed to September 16 for bail application and both suspects remain in lawful custody,” Galawe said. taungdailynews@gmail.com
