A 33-YEAR-OLD Nigerian man was found dead in the streets in Potchefstroom in the early hours of Tuesday. North West police spokesperson, Col Sabata Mokgwabone said the deceased was earlier stopped by police after a car chase.

“He was allegedly being searched by the police. However, a report was later received that the man was found dead. A murder has been registered at Potchefstroom Police Station and the Independent Police Investigative Directorate is investigating the case.

The incident prompted Nigerians to protest and marched to the Potchefstroom Police Station demanding answers. Mokgwabone said the Nigerians picketed in the CBD, but the situation was contained well.

“The police are monitoring situation well and no incidents were reported. We have dispersed them and the city is safe. The victim was found with no visible injuries,” he said.
