Woman sentenced to 80 days imprisonment for possession of drugs

A 26-year-old woman was sentenced to 80 days imprisonment or R800 fine on a charge of possession of drugs by Kakamas Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

Northern Cape police spokesperson, Lieutenant Col Dimakatso Mooi said police from Kenhardt Police Station under the command of Brigadier Diakanyo followed up on information and searched a house in Millennium Square.

“During the search, a bag of disposable nappies was lying on the bed. The police found a pill container with three straws of tic and a crumbled piece of paper containing 14 straws of tic all estimated to the street value of R850.

“A woman was arrested and appeared in court. She was found guilty and released on a fine of R800,” Mooi said.

She said on another incident, the members proceeded to search another house. Mooi said they seized a dustbin containing 300lt illegal concoction.

“A 31 year old man was summoned for illegal possession of concoction. The suspect was issued with a R1200 fine or to appear in Court on September 7,” Mooi said.
