Kodwa says the ANC doesn’t take its support base for granted & needs to own up on its mistakes.

JOHANNESBURG – African National Congress spokesman Zizi Kodwa says while the ruling party still enjoys a vote of support from most South Africans, the steady decline shown in the local government elections results cannot be ignored.
The party has accepted defeat in the Nelson Mandela Bay metropolitan and has decided to withdraw its complaint to the Independent Electoral Commission.
Kodwa says the loss should instead be used as an opportunity to reflect on the party’s mistakes.
“We have now crossed the 10 million mark in terms of people who voted for the ANC, we don’t take that for granted. People carry expectations. For us it’s about how do we then use the period between now and the end of term to address the expectations of the people. We must with humility look at some of the areas where we have not performed well, because in some areas, it’s areas that are strongly ANC, traditionally.”
He adds, “At times we must sit back and own up an actually acknowledge our own mistakes in order to self-correct, and that is the strength of the ANC. That is why it has lived for more than 400 years.”
