JOHANNESBURG – North West police and prison officials are trying to determine how 10 awaiting trial inmates were able to escape from the Mogwase Correctional Centre in Rustenburg.

Authorities are planning to interrogate one inmate who was rearrested after the break-out.

The gang fled in the early hours of yesterday morning after having broken through a bathroom window.

They are all facing charges for serious crimes and some had also tried to escape from prison earlier this year.

The Correctional Services Department’s Manelisi Wolela says it appears the inmates carefully planned their escape.

“We are cautioning people that whatever information they find they must contact the police instead of doing anything because we regard them as dangerous. In due course we will also release their pictures so that people can identify them.”

Maimane Bantu Education comment shocking-SANCO

sanco
BY REGINALD KANYANE
Democratic Alliance(DA)leader,Mmusi Maimane’s “Bantu Education was better”comment is shocking and has exposed the ignorance and lack of appreciation of the extend to which the racially discriminatory curriculum under apartheid had impacted on the lives of the oppressed majority, the South African National Civic Organisation(SANCO) said on Friday.
“Maimane would not have said what he said if he understood that the separate and unequal education was designed to teach African learners to be “hewers of wood and drawers of water” for a white-run economy and society, regardless of an individual’s abilities and aspirations ,”highlighted SANCO National Spokesperson,Jabu Mahlangu.
Mahlangu asserted that segregated education had disadvantaged all black groups,i.e Africans, Indians and Coloureds, but was particularly devastating for Africans.
“Suggesting that Bantu Education was better undermines the struggle of the youth of 1976,the struggle for liberation in its entirety and the transformation process that was embarked upon since the dawn of freedom and democracy that the DA remains opposed to,”he emphasised.
He said that communities that continue to suffer as a result of the legacy of Bantu Education will remain opposed to the DA and its policies aimed at maintaining the status quo and protecting white privilege.

“Bantu education served the interests of white supremacy. It denied black people access to the same educational opportunities and resources enjoyed by white South Africans. It denigrated black people’s history, culture and identity and promoted myths and racial stereotypes in its curricula and textbooks,” Mahlangu underscored.
He emphasised that the DA’s narrative continues to regard blacks as perpetual children in need of parental supervision by whites.
“Unfortunately this is the position Maimane is comfortable with as the co-opted DA leader but for a very long time it will remain the position that the majority of our people are not willing to accept,”he said.

SANCO call on police to clamp down on Mavuso sex stokvels

BY REGINALD KANYANE
The South African National Civic Organisation (SANCO) on Saturday called on police to clamp down on Mavuso sex stokvels that are destroying the lives of young girls around Pretoria townships and Hammanskraal areas.
“We call on communities to unite against the phenomenon in order to reclaim our youth from being corrupted by syndicates that are destroying the lives and future prospects of young girls through human trafficking, prostitution and drugs,” highlighted SANCO National Spokesperson, Jabu Mahlangu in reacting to a Pretoria News report that an unknown woman that attended the stokvel on Tuesday in Mabopane died in a 29-year old man’s bed in Soshanguve.
The prevalence of the sex stokvels were recently condemned by President Jacob Zuma who said women and girls needed to be protected from them.
“We cannot and should not subject our children to this abuse and danger,” Zuma said during Youth Day celebrations in Soweto.
Echoing his condemnation, Mahlangu said that underage drinking, coupled with sex-for-sale and the sugar-daddy syndrome promoted at the infamous stokvels contribute to learner drop outs, increased teenage pregnancies as well as the spread of HIV and Aids.
“We cannot afford to lose a whole generation of future leaders to those who are exploiting their situation to satisfy their greed and lust.We have to wage a relentless war and pull up all the stops to save our youth from destruction,”he stressed.
