Platinum Stars have secured a 2-1 win over Orlando Pirates at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in the Absa Premiership clash on Monday evining.

Stars’ win sees them leapfrog Kaizer Chiefs into the third spot on the log. Dikwena took the lead just after seven minutes through Gift Sithole.

Pirates showed off some skillful play in the 36th minute when they were awarded a free kick for a foul on Menzi Masuku. Mpho Makola took the free-kick which found Sifiso Myeni whose header went over the bar.

The game went to half time break with Stars leading Pirates. However, the Buccaneers started the second half as the stronger side, but they founded themselves conceding the second goal as Ndumiso Mabena scored cheeky back-heel to make it 2-0.

The visitors got their goal in the 73rd minute through Miyeni. Eric Tinkler’s side pushed for the equaliser but failed to penetrate Stars’ defence. The game ended 2-1 with Dikwena securing a maximum points.

A man re-arrested after escaping from custody’

NORTH WEST police said they have re-arrested a fugitive Danon Kruger in Lichtenburg on Sunday at around 1am. Kruger allegedly escaped from lawful custody three weeks ago. North West police spokesperson, Col Sabata Mokgwabone said the suspect was detained for two business burglary cases.

“The alleged crimes were both committed in March 2014 and 2016 respectively in Lichtenburg. The accused was re-arrested while trying to get out of town. Police worked together with neighbourhood watch and arrested the suspect. He is expected to appear in the Lichtenburg Magistrate’s Court on May 3,” he said.

Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant General Baile Motswenyane commended the Lichtenburg neighbourhood watch and the police for their cooperation that led to the arrest.

‘Music superstar talent search intensified’

CULTURE, arts and traditional affairs, tourism departments and Mahikeng local municipality embarked on a talent search across the province. CATA spokesperson, Shirley Montsho said the “Do You Wanna Be a Music Superstar talent search” was launched back in September last year.

She said the competition reached its climax. Montsho said the main objective of the project was to unearthed and harness future legends from the province.

“The event will be held at Mmabatho Convention Centre on May 14. The winning song from the up and coming artists top five will be announced at the event. The Project is a partnership between Education Alive, CATA, Tourism and the Mahikeng local Municipality in North West.

“The National Lotteries Commission funded Education Alive, which is part of a worldwide non-profit educational organisation. The aim of the project is to stage an artist skills and talent development project. The project was launch in the province through a “Hit song”,” Montsho said.

She further added that the search was aimed at identifying songs from potential artists.

“This also carries forward the government’s objective and mandate of implementing the five concretes, amongst them to Rebrand, Reposition and Renewal the province through Agriculture, Culture and Tourism (ACT). Eighty artists were chosen out of 500 demos received.

“The chosen artists attended a five day workshop valued at R20 000 per entrant. They received workshop from highly skilled from executives in the music industry. Five best songs were identified through a selection process,” she said.

Montsho said the selected songs were played on Motsweding FM. She further added that listeners were requested to vote for their best song through short message service (sms). Montsho also added that the top 5 finalists will be revealed on Tuesday at a media briefing.
