Three Tlhomelang High School learners were attacked on school premises yesterday around 10am. One learner was seriously injured and was taken to the nearest hospital.
Crime fighting unit, Wanya Tsotsi says they were called in after police delayed to appear after the attack and managed to restore calm.
Chairperson of the unit, Pantsi Obusitse says the attackers, who are said to be former learners were expelled from the school have been identified but would allow the police to take the next step in arresting them.
Obusitse said they will be monitoring schools in the township on Friday to ensure the safety of students particularly as it goes into the weekend.
“The school is in panic mode and parents will not want to send their children to school today, so we will be there to ensure the safety of all learners,” Obusitse said.
He said that since the unit’s inception gangsterism has seemingly gone down, but with its members arrests they have stepped back giving space to police to do their work, but would not be “deterred to continue fighting crime”.
