NORTH West police are concern after they have experienced few car hijackings in the province this weekend.

Provincial police spokesperson, Col Sabata Mokgwabone said they urge motorist to exercise caution measures when offering lifts to hitch-hickers.

“Four car hijacking incidents occurred this weekend. Hitch-hickers allegedly robbed unsuspecting motorists their belongings.

Mokgwabone said the first incident took place in Mahikeng on Friday.

He said a man was driving his VW Polo Vivo car from Mahikeng to Lichtenburg and offered three unknown males a lift.

“The suspects hijacked the driver near Rooigrond.  One of the suspects allegedly requested the driver to stop so that he can answer his phone.

“The driver agreed to the request and stopped. One of the suspects got out of the car and walked towards the driver’s door. He allegedly opened the door and pushed the driver to the passenger seat,” he said.

The suspects then drove off until near Itsoseng where the car owner was dropped off.

Mokgwabone said the car-hijacking charge was opened and police investigation is underway.
