ANC Youth League is not weak – Maine

COLLEN

Bloemfontein – ANC Youth League (ANCYL) President Collen Maine vowed on Wednesday to do everything in his power to prove that the youth league was not “weak”.

“There is a perception in the country that suggests that the youth league doesn’t have a plan and that we are weak, and that is not true,” Maine told reporters in Bloemfontein.

“We just want to send a message of hope to our youth. We will do everything in our power to prove that the youth league is not for sale… it is a movement of the people.”

Phiyega’s allegations against me are bogus – Nhleko

Nhleko

Johannesburg – Police Minister Nathi Nhleko said on Wednesday that allegations made by suspended national police commissioner Riah Phiyega, that he was colluding with newly appointed senior police officials to have her fired, were bogus.

Nhleko was briefing the media during the opening of Yeoville’s police station.

He said that he had nothing to do with the circumstances facing Phiyega, but rather, it was President Jacob Zuma who had taken the decision to suspend her after recommendations by the Farlam Commission to investigate her fitness to hold office.

Not so innocent after all

Inno

Johannesburg – Innocent Mdledle is allegedly the professional footballer that appeared in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, Soccerladuma revealed on Wednesday.

The news about a professional footballer who was arrested for assaulting an on-duty police officer in the early hours of Monday morning has been making headlines in local media.

However, the identity of the player remained everyone’s guess, as the police and all the parties involved kept it under wraps until he appeared in court.

Following his court appearance on Tuesday, the Soccerladuma has been reliably told that the player is none other than the former Bafana Bafana, Orlando Pirates and Mamelodi Sundowns defender.

Sources confirmed that the left-back made a brief court appearance on Tuesday and was released with a warning, while investigation of the police is ongoing.

According to the website, all attempts to contact Mdledle were unsuccessful.
