The draw for the Telkom Knockout semi-finals were made on Sunday afternoon.

The biggest match of the round will see Kaizer Chiefs host Soweto rivals, Orlando Pirates, who saw off Maritzburg United on Saturday.

While, there will be another derby on show, as Mamelodi Sundowns will host SuperSport United in a Tshwane derby.

Chiefs, who defeated Mpumalanga Black Aces 2-1 to secure their semi-final spot, will also meet Pirates next week Saturday for the first Soweto Derby of the season.

Both semi-finals will be played on the weekend of 7 November 2015.

Mamelodi Sundowns secured the spot in the Telkom Knockout semi-finals after they thrashed Free State Stars 6-1 at Goble Park.

Pitso Mosimane’s charges enjoyed most of the possession in the early stage but could only threaten Stars with efforts from distance.

Sundowns eventually broke the deadlock in the 22nd minute when Mogakolodi  Ngele side-footed home from six-yards out, after getting on the end of Bongani Zungu’s knock-on.

It got better for Mosimane’s charges in the 25th minute Leonardo Castro collected a flick from Ngele, before he bundled the ball home from six-yards out. Although, replays suggest Diakite will be credited with the own goal.

The South African Football Association National Executive Committee on Saturday unanimously endorsed businessman Tokyo Sexwale as their candidate for the FIFA presidency.

The decision to endorse Sexwale was taken at a Johannesburg hotel after the former Robben Island political prisoner had made a presentation to the Safa NEC.

Elections to replace Joseph ‘Sepp’ Blatter as FIFA President are scheduled to take place on 26 February next year.

The removal of the Totius statue, the dismantling of interpretation services, parallel medium  education and 50% black residents in campus residence by 2020.

These are some of the demands made by Reform PUK, a non-partisan student movement who had a meeting today in the Totius hall where they handed over a memorandum of demands to campus and university management. Jeanett Mosala explained that they wanted to create a platform for black students to voice their concerns and grievances without fear.

“It is historic because black students have never had the opportunity to do so,” said Mosala.

Johannesburg – President Jacob Zuma may have told the country there would be a 0% increase in university fees next year, but Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande does not know how South Africa will pay for it, according to a report on Sunday.

Nzimande was quoted by the Sunday Times saying finding the around R3 billion needed to fund a freeze in university fees would be “a tough one”.

Johannesburg – A man believed to be Russian drowned off Durban’s North Beach on Sunday morning, paramedics said.

Lifeguards pulled him from the surf and tried to resuscitate him, Netcare 911 spokesperson Chris Botha said.

Paramedics arrived shortly afterwards, but they failed to revive him.

Harare – President Robert Mugabe deserved to win China’s equivalent of the Nobel Prize this year however scornful Zimbabwe’s opposition is of it, ruling party apologists and state media said on Sunday.

Zanu-PF MP Psychology Maziwisa told the state broadcasting corporation that Mugabe’s winning the Confucius Peace Prize was “a milestone for the whole nation”.

“We feel it was long overdue as he has exhibited that he deserves it over the past 35 years,” Maziwisa said.

Sunday Mail columnist Vukani Madoda criticised the “revolting opposition conspiracy to scorn good achievements that can never be hidden”.

Cape Town – Ajax Cape Town defender Cecil Lolo has been killed in a car crash.

The 28-year-old was one of two men killed in a head-on collision just before midnight on Saturday.

Western Cape emergency services spokesperson Robert Daniels said a VW Golf GTI collided with a bakkie on Spine Road, just off the N2 highway near Khayelitsha.

Johannesburg – The basic education department is ready for the beginning of matric exams across the country, with over 800 000 students registered to write, it said on Sunday.

In a statement the department said its national senior certificate (NSC) examinations will begin on Monday and end on Friday, November 30.

A total of 801 688 students are enrolled to write the exams, made up of 674 232 full-time candidates and 127 4456 part-time candidates.

There has been an increase of 122 644 candidates and a drop of 10 581 regarding part-time candidates.
