Three-month-old girl was killed and six others injured this evening after a light motor vehicle and bakkie collided head-on on the R53, 20 kilometres outside of Potchefstroom.

When paramedics from the ER24 Potchefstroom branch arrived on scene, they found a bakkie and light motor vehicle lying on the side of the road, 20 metres apart. The light motor vehicle was found lying on its roof.

On assessment, paramedics found numerous bodies lying around the two vehicles.

The body of a three-month-old baby was found lying near the bakkie. Unfortunately the babiy had already succumbed to her multiple, fatal injuries. Nothing more could be done for the patient and she was declared dead on scene.

Six other patients were found on scene, two of them critically injured. Paramedics treated the patients for their injuries and provided the critically injured patients with advanced life support.

Once treated, the patients were transported to Potchefstroom Hospital for urgent treatment.

Local authorities were on scene for further investigations.
