FARMER and his son who were each sentenced to 18 years and 24 years respectively for killing their worker are set to approach the Supreme Court of Appeal in a bid to stay out of prison.

Mathys Cloete, 76, and his son Daniel, 34, were found guilty two weeks ago by the North West High Court of the murder of Bakang Moleko.

The court heard that Moleko was severely assaulted and tortured by the Cloetes, who accused him of stealing 50 litres of diesel and two tyres at their Boshoek farm in September 2012.

They chained him and electrocuted him with a car battery. The North West High Court sitting in Vryburg, sentenced them to 18 years’ and 24 years’ imprisonment respectively.
