‘Fallen police heroes remembered in Mahikeng’

NORTH West police gathered together to celebrate the lives of police members who were killed while on duty. The Community Safety and Transport Management department, families of the police who lost their lives in the line of duty and other dignitaries converged at the TTA sports grounds in Mahikeng to honour police officials who lost their lives in the line of duty during the 2014/2015 financial year.

Provincial police spokesperson, Captain Paul Ramaloko said: “The event honoured two police officials and a Traffic police. Lieutenant Colonel TW Manxusa who was based at the Provincial police office in Potchefstroom, died in an accident on June 2 last year in Mahikeng where four members of the Correctional department also lost their lives.”

Ramaloko said that Sergeant VM Pilane from Tlhabane police, died on July 5 last year.

He said that Pilane was fatally shot while mediating in a domestic dispute.

“This event also honoured Mr GG Moabi of the Department of Community Safety and Transport Management, who was attached to the Bapong Traffic Control. He died during a motorbike accident in Rustenburg.”

The event was graced by the presence of political representatives, community structures and local chiefs.

The Police commemoration was an annual event to honour police officials who lost their lives in the line of duty.
