Department takes notes at the World Tourism Day Celebrations in Limpopo.

The Tourism fraternity in South Africa recently gathered in their multitudes at the Kruger National Park’s Phalaborwa Gate in Limpopo for the annual commemoration of the World Tourism Day which was held under the theme “A million new experiences await”.

These celebrations are an array of tourism related activities and activation which this year included the National Celebrations of Heritage Day and Limpopo Provincial 2015 Lilizela Tourism Awards.

North West MEC for Tourism, Desbo Mohono deployed a team of delegates which included senior managers. Led by the Chief Financial Officer, Motsepe Moiloanyane, the delegation’s mission was to ensure that the department fosters relations with other tourism authorities and national key role stakeholders.

“An event such magnitude brings together vital tourism key role players which presents us with a unique lifetime opportunity for to interact and engage with the who’s who of tourism, moreover we will learn more about other provinces and also exchange best practices on how certain things are done within the tourism sector”, Mohono said.

Delegates also attended the Limpopo Provincial Lilizela Tourism Awards ceremony in which there was great networking with other provinces but the highlight of the night was how the venue was set up, the lighting and other gimmicks they infused in their production of the awards ceremony.

Departmental Spokesperson, Dineo Lolokwane said that the importance of being part of such events is immeasurable as it also serves as perfect platform for exchanging best practices.

“Gatherings of such nature will expose you to events management antics and also teach you creative and exciting ways of doing things while hosting events. We also get to put our fingers on the pulse of the Tourism fraternity, to get to know how they feel about the North West Province, their perceptions and stereotypes about us”, she said.

World Tourism Day is an annual event meant to foster awareness among the international community about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economic value.

Navas says Bafana Bafana have potential to dominate global football

Costa Rican captain and Real Madrid star Keylor Navas said the South African Senior National football team had the potential to dominate global football if they keep their feet on the ground and believe in themselves.

The popular star said he is surprised why Bafana Bafana are not dominating the African continent with the type of football they play.

The mild-mannered goalkeeper who is a cult hero in this Central American country of around 5 million inhabitants said South Africans are talented, mobile and can destroy any team on a given day.

“Looking at how they competed here, I am still surprised that South Africa is not dominating Africa and even most top countries in the world.

“If they play this type of football on regular basis then surely they should be among the giants in the world. They are electric fast, can pass the ball with high tempo and hardly lose possession when they are in charge,” said Navas who is adored in this part of the world.

The Real Madrid star said he was impressed by the South African culture of football.

“It is quite different from either the European or South or Central American style.

Their football is refreshing and exciting to see. I suppose they need to play against top sides in the world in order to express themselves more and dominate on regular basis,” added Navas.

The international star was beaten by a cheeky Andile Jali lob on the 9th minute but Navas said Jali was only among a myriad of great players in the Bafana Bafana squad.

“I am not trying to impress anyone. If anything, no one normally praises your vanquisher but we need to give credit where it is due, South Africa are a good football playing nation and that is a fact,” concluded Navas.
