A 28 year-old man from Majemantsho, near Mahikeng, faces a murder charge after he allegedly strangled his pregnant girlfriend to death.

The incident happened in Dithakong village on Sunday morning.

North West police spokesperson Major Pelonomi Makau said that the girlfriend was also 28 years old and she was 18 weeks pregnant.

Makau said the two had a bitter argument with the boyfriend allegedly accusing the deceased of cheating with her previous lover.

“The boyfriend alleged that his girlfriend who had two children from previous relationship was still romantically involved with her former boyfriend. An argument ensued between the two, and the suspect strangled the girlfriend to death. She was found death by a neighbour in her shack,” Makau said.

Makau said that the boyfriend fled the scene and went back to his house in Majemantsho, but later informed his father of what had happened.

“The father of the suspect handed him over to the police and a case of murder was opened against the suspect. He will appear before Mmabatho Magistrate’s Court soon,” Makau said.
