MEC Matsemela launch Last Push campaign

THE North West Education and Sport Development MEC Maphefo Matsemela launched the Last Push campaign with different stakeholders at J.M. Ntsime Secondary School in Mogwase on Friday.

The department spokesperson Elias Malindi said that the intention of the campaign was to mobilise all stakeholders in the province to support the department in ensuring a commitment to achieve excellence in education during 2015 academic year.

He said since the introduction of the campaign in 2013-14 respectively, the province has always performed well in the matric results by achieving top position in the national results.

“The different stakeholders those who attended the event pledged their support to the department. They also condemned the burning of schools incident that recently occurred in Kopela village. Mostly shed that the incident denied the learners the right for access to education.”

“Most learners were encouraged to use the bursaries offered by the North West University and register in large numbers in the agricultural studies since there are many opportunities in the field.” Malindi said.

National chairperson for National Interfaith Council of South Africa (NICSA), Bishop Daniel Matebesi said: “In supporting the campaign, all the religious leaders registered in their organisation will advocate the last Push campaign in their congregations. And we will visit schools to motivate both the educators and the learners to work hard during the examinations.”

The North West Education and Sport Development MEC Maphefo Matsemela highlighted that the department has created conducive environment for learners to equip themselves through education.

“We condemn in strongest terms the torching of schools in Kopela village, as it undermines the efforts of the tax payers. I will be visiting the area to meet with the different stakeholders to come up with strategies of ensuring that learners benefit in the last push campaign on Monday,” Matsemela said.

According to Matsemela, the learners will be allowed to use three days for as study off.

”This year there is three days between (October 5 and October 23) that will be dedicated to study off. Three weeks will be used for constructive revision at schools in order to enable learners to better be prepared for the final examinations.”
