‘One nabbed for being in possession of drugs’

A 27 year-old man was arrested on Friday after he was found in possession of drugs suspected to be mandrax.  Northern Cape police spokesperson, Lieutenant Donald Mhluli said that the two members from Kimberley Crime Prevention Unit were busy patrolling the area next to Monument Spar in Kimberley when they noticed a suspicious man.

“A man hastened his footsteps and ran away after he spotted the police. The two members got out of the van and chased after the suspect. The suspect was arrested and searched. Police found about 200 suspected mandrax tablets to the street value of about R30 000,” Mdhluli said.

He said the suspect was arrested and is facing the charge of possession of drugs.

“He is expected to appear in the Kimberley Magistrate’s Court soon. The Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Risimati Peter Shivuri has welcomed the arrest and applauded the two police officers for being vigilant after arresting the suspect.”
