A 33-year-old woman from Taung Extension 6 was left dejected after criminals made a meal out of her house belongings. Margaret Molotsi (33) who stays alone at Taung Extension 6 said she left her house almost a month ago to attend a funeral of one of her relatives, and received unholy news that there was a break-in in her house. “The incident took place on the 16th of June 2015 where I left my house key with my neighbor while attending funeral. “I normal leave the key with them, but on that mentioned date, I received the disturbing news that left me aggravated. I lost plasma TV, tupperwares, tea bags, clothes and my toiletries,” she said. According to Molotsi, there was no sign of forceful break-in and she suspects that someone she knows might be involved. “I always leave my key with my neighbor and did not experience this, but what left me thinking was that there was no forceful break-in. According to police investigations, the door was swiftly opened without any alterations,” said Molotsi. She believes that the suspect/s who stole her items might have used her key to gain access. “I went to the police to open a house-breaking case and now police drag their feet in investigating the matter. They need to take few people for questioning, but that never happened,” she said. However North West police spokesperson, sergeant Kealeboga Molale said police investigations continue regarding the case. “We can confirm that police are still investigating the matter, and we would advise the victim to approach police if she knows any suspect/s,” Molale said. -TDN Follow us on Twitter@Taung_DailyNews or @IceT_

Over 38 000 jobs and job opportunities have been created in municipalities throughout Bokone Bophirima through various infrastructure projects and the community works programme (CWP), since the start of the current term of local government in 2011.

A total of 171 760 households access free basic water, 146 748 households provided with free basic sanitation whilst 133 939 benefited from free basic electricity since 2011. MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements, Collen Maine made a presentation to the delegates of the National Council of Provinces yesterday in Koster, on progress made by the province on the provision of access to basic services to communities since the last local government elections in 2011.

MEC Maine said at least 892 379 households have been provided with access to clean running water whilst a whopping 876 124 households got access to electricity since 2011. He said although the Province experienced numerous community protests since in 2011, these protests were predominately in Mahikeng and Madibeng local municipalities with over 15 protests in past three years. “There has been a noticeable reduction in the number of the protests since the beginning of this year. We are putting systems in place to deal with service delivery challenges such as developing an infrastructure delivery model at district level in order to improve and synergise infrastructure delivery at provincial and local government level.

We are also working on improving intergovernmental relations by empowering the forums at district levels to integrate plans and programmes that are aimed at improving service delivery’’, said MEC Maine.
