VARIOUS church leaders and members attended the special ceremony organised by the Office Of The Premier to reach out to the communities of the North West province.
The initiative was brought forward by North West premier Supra Mahumapelo in quest to help the communities to deal with a number of painful encounters such as crime, inequality and unemployment.
The event was held at Jesus Christian Ministries church in Taung on Thursday.
Among those who graced the event was Mahumapelo’s provincial chaplain, Bishop Moagi Khunou and other church leaders.
Jesus Christian Ministries Pastor Elvis Thabang Moepeng said the visit will go down the history books and it is rejuvinating to see premier taking time to incorporates church leaders in taking the province forward.
“We need to make sure we invite Almighty into anything we doing as the country. We need to change the mindset that causes a major shift in people’s assessment of church.
“We do not need to flock to churches in droves only during tragedy. There is just something about churches that society finds in times of tragedy and hardship. This always fascinates me because general public embrace church during a time of crisis, but in times of peace and prosperity, the church seems to become irrelevant again,” Moepeng said.
He further said regardless of this double standard, the church keeps people grounded, flushing out the burden of life by providing a bedrock of faith and answers to humanity’s deepest needs.
Bishop Khunou addressed the congregation that was singing, clapping and dancing during the special reconciliation ceremony.
He said this ceremony helps the communities to deal with slew of tragedies which have cast a dark stain on the province.
“We must adhere to the message of God to guide us as our lives belong to him. We need to always upheld his morals and values, because without God nothing was created,” Khunou outlines.
He also encourages people to refrain from committing things that will demoralise the society. He also advised people to have humanity and selflessness must be instilled in their heart.
“We need to follow on the footsteps of our late president, Dr Nelson Mandela. Mandela was a man of integrity and always put people first,” he said.
Denoted their different church regalia, some of said they appreciate the role played by premier Mahumapelo.
One of attendants, Boichoko Phakedi has this to say “We believe in what the premier has rolled out. You will remember that this reconciliation and healing programmes were rolled out in various part of the province and paid dividends. So to premier Mahumapelo, please keep doing what you doing because North West will be a better province because of you,” Phakedi said.
