Cape Town – The Department of Basic Education revealed this week that one in four South African schools don’t offer maths in Grades 10, 11 and 12.

The figure was contained in a written reply to the DA’s spokesperson for basic education, Annette Lovemore.

Here is a list of the most important factoids from the department’s response:

1. 75.7% of schools in South Africa offer maths in Grades 10, 11 and 12. That’s 4 484 of the 5 927 schools in the country.

67 MINUTES ASSISTING TOURISM PRODUCT OWNERS

Taung – The Department of Tourism in the North West will spend its 67 minutes Address tourism product gaps as per the grading assessment report, which includes infrastructure and access for people with disability and further promoting and marketing of tourism product in Taung on Friday.

The Department will be joining the provincial executive council and the Setsokotsana programme in Taung in promoting tourism products in Villages Small Dorpies and Township. The venture will also address the geographical spread and seasonality challenges in the tourism sector in the area, as well as promoting enterprise support, especially on tourism products owned by Africans especially women.

Based on the outline, the MEC for Tourism Desbo Mohono has identified Modisa Lodge in Taung as a pilot project to execute the Nelson Mandela day celebrations for this year. This will also promote Agriculture, Culture and Tourism policy pronouncement.

The North West tourism team will among others be engaged in the following:

1. Identification of infrastructure and access into Modisa guest lodge for people with disability.

2. Enterprise support interventions, which includes erection of signage and many other activities.

The event will take place as follows:

Venue: Modisa Lodge in extension 6, Taung.
