A case of rape against two Taung suspects was provisionally withdrawn by Taung Magistrate Court on Monday.
Phemelo Goiwakae(21) and Ephraim Kgosiemang Sereo(23) were subsequently arrested by police at Dj Nation’s Annual Bash after they allegedly gang-raped a girl.
According the information, two suspects were arrested by security guards at parking lots after they heard a girl screaming in agony. The security guards allegedly rushed to the crime scene and found the two suspects raping a girl.
They were arrested and appeared before court where they were granted R1000 bail each.
The rape case was provisionally struck off the roll because there was no enough evidence.
The prosecutor tinted that the DNA test results were still at the laboratory and tried to remand the case, however the magistrate highlighted that the case has been dragging so long and the justice delayed, is justice denied.
The magistrate withdrew the matter provisionally and informed the two suspects that they will be brought back if there is enough evidence against them to proceed with the matter.
Goiwakae from Nhole and Sereo from Morokweng village, breathe the sigh of relief and said they are happy to be let off the hook because they never committed the crime.
“I was at the crime scene yes….but I went there because I called my friend who told me he is outside. I saw a phone light and went there thinking that it was him. I was surprised when security guards pounced on me and accused me of rape” Sereo said.
Goiwakae who stutters when he talks shared the same sentiments.
“I did not rape anyone. The security guards accused me of something I did not commit” Goiwakae concludes.
