Taung- The community of Kameelputs village, near Pampierstad helped police to arrest three of seven suspects in a foiled armed robbery, North West police said.

Police said seven suspects allegedly surrounded the house of one of the famous businessmen in the area and attempted to rob him undisclosed amount of money.

The incident took place on Sunday and according to Mosimanethebe Samuel Charlie (50) it is a miracle that he escaped death after armed robbers surrounded his house in quest of killing him.

“I was called by my neighbour who informed me that there are people surrounding my house and they looked armed. I decided to get into my car, and drove through the gate. When I was at the gate, one of the suspects pointed a gun at me and I also responded by trying to drove over him, but he ran away” Charlie said.

Charlie said the community gathered together and chased the men away.

“We chased after them and managed to arrest three of them. I’m still flabbergasted why they did not shoot at me and it was because of the mercy of God. This is not the first time people pounced on me and try to kill me. Back in 2005, two people did the same and we managed to arrest one person, but until now we do not know where that case ended” he said.

Charlie said Kgomotso police were not helpful because they only sent two police which one was a female.

“We having a problem with our police officers in Kgomotso police station, one of the police officers came here wearing a white shirt and empty-handed while robbery is taking place. The police from Vryburg and Pampierstad atleast arrived and we managed to arrest three suspects” he said.

Ward councillor, Thandiwe Sebe said the police must up their game because criminals now found a loophole in remoted areas like Kameelputs.

“We would like to applaud our residents who came out in numbers to help in combating crime in the area. Criminals now take advantage because police’s response isn’t at its best, so we plea to our police to be more vigilant” Sebe said.

North West police spokeswoman, Sergeant Kelebogile Moleko confirmed that three suspects from Daveyton in Gauteng province, were arrested during attempted robbery and will appear at Pampierstad Magistrates Court for attempted robbery.

Taung- A case against a 30 year-old man from Moretele village, near Taung was postponed by Taung Magistrates Court for mental examination.

According to the sister of the suspect who hacked a woman with a panga, she informed the court that her brother is mental-retarded.

Jabu Letebele(30) was subsequently arrested last week after he allegedly hacked Julia Mokgweetsi with a panga.

According to Letebele’s family, their son allegedly saw witches at that night of the incident and went berserk.

Letebele allegedly was infuriated and went on to attack Mokgweetsi for no apparent reasons.

He was arrested and charged with attempted murder, and Mokgweetsi was admitted at Taung Hospital for medical attention.

The case against Letebele was postponed until 07 May 20015 and he will be taken to mental institution to determine if he is fit to be arraigned.

Police investigations continue and he was remanded in custody.

Taung’s famous traditional healer, Kagiso Malepe told Vaaltar FM that it will be difficult to stabilize Letebele as most people who saw witches it is mostly difficult to make them normal again.

“I can confirm to you that if someone sees witches, that person will be affected either mentally, go blind or turned into a mute. There are few traditional healers who could help someone who saw witches” Malepe said.

ANC: DA’s report on Marikana is misleading

collen-maine.jpg

Mahikeng – The Department of Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima has noted with dismay and disgust allegations by the DA’s shadow Minister of Human Settlements, Makashule Gana (MP) recently on what he termed “assault on human dignity in Marikana’s informal settlements and mining hostels’’. In his statement, Gana threatens to engage the Chairperson of Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements, Nocawe Mafu, to summon both Minister Lindiwe Sisulu and MEC Maine to table the inter-ministerial task team’s report on the progress in Marikana.

Gana’s move is but an act of desperation to garner votes and to secure his seat as a Member of Parliament at the expense of the residents of Marikana. The fact is that the Province has registered remarkable progress in as far as developments in the area, are concerned.

Of the 292 Breaking New Ground housing units allocated for Marikana for 2014/2015 financial year, 100 foundations have passed the inspection process. All 252 Community Residential Units (CRU) have ground floor plates and the 1st floor slabs have already been completed. This project which commenced in 2014 is envisaged to have created at least 204 jobs at completion in July this year. This project remains the 1st phase of more than 2000 housing units which will be built in the Medium Term Expenditure Framework (MTEF).

“The fact that Gasa wants to ‘summon’ MEC Maine to “table the inter-ministerial task team’’ is meant to give an impression to the electorates that the MEC has refused to account on the progress made in Marikana. MEC Maine, a former Member of Parliament, is available at all times to account on the work of the portfolio that has been assigned to him” Human Settlement departmental spokesperson Ben Bole said.

It is no surprise that Hon.Gasa is learning his way around Parliament procedures and platforms, judging by the fact that he has only been with the institution for just under a year and has a lot to learn on the platforms that he can use to get the Executive arm of government to account, instead of seeking reports through the media.
