Rustenburg – A man has been taken in for questioning in Rustenburg in connection with the murder of an Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (Amcu) leader, North West police said on Tuesday.

“It can be confirmed that a 40-year-old Lesotho national has been taken in for questioning. It is believed that he will assist the police in the investigation and arrest of the suspects,” said Brigadier Thulani Ngubane.

“Preliminary investigation has shown that at this stage, the incident is not linked to previous rivalry between National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) and Association of Mineworkers and Construction. We would like to state that when the case was reported, it was not clear that the deceased was a member of Amcu, but the police reacted to the incident promptly.”
