Court orders that De Kock’s lawyers can see him

Johannesburg – The North Gauteng High Court granted an order on Friday that apartheid-era assassin Eugene de Kock’s lawyers must have access to him, his lawyer Julian Knight said.

The court ordered that the paroled former Vlakplaas commander’s lawyers also be allowed to consult with him in private.

Pretoria pedestrian accident leaves one dead

A worker tragically died in a pedestrian accident at the corner of Zambezi and Moloto Roads this afternoon. Exact detail to the cause of the accident will remain a subject for police investigation and comment.

Netcare 911 paramedics arrived at the scene and found that the man had been pinned against a fence by a vehicle. After medics examined the patient it was found that  he had tragically died before our arrival due to the extensive injuries that he sustained.

Premier Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo welcomes return of peace in Ledig

Mahikeng – Premier Supra Obakeng Ramoeletsi Mahumapelo has welcomed the peaceful outcome of discussions between Provincial Government and the Ledig Community which has returned calmness and normalcy to the community following days of unrest.

“On behalf of the People and Government of Bokone Bophirima, we thank the community and leadership of Ledig for agreeing to work with Government to seek formal and legal means to find answers to questions raised by the community about mining operations in the area and their benefits, said Mahumapelo”.

Premier Mahumapelo further expressed his disappointment and outrage regarding isolated incidents of criminality in the Province targeted primarily at foreign nationals.

“We call on our communities to find reason in our deep reserves of tolerance and understanding to work together with Government to resolve any grievances which might have ignited this shameful treatment of our brothers and sisters particularly from Africa, Mahumapelo appealed”

The Provincial Government will very soon publish for consultation regarding new regulations governing small business in line with our new policy on Villages, Townships and Small Dorpies (VTSD).

These regulations will amongst others ensure that opportunities in the small business sector are not abused by anyone whether South African or foreigner, to sell drugs and stolen goods.

MEC Maine restores order in “platinum rich” Ledig

Ledig – Order has been restored in Ledig near Sun City, following the successful intervention of MEC for Local Government and Human Settlements in Bokone Bophirima, Collen Maine who has been in the area, engaging at length with all affected parties in since the beginning of the week.

On Thursday, community leaders committed to ensure that order is sustained throughout, whilst engagements continue to bring the matters that led to the violent protests, to finality. More than 30 people who were arrested since the weekend, were released on R500 bail each on Thursday after appearing at the Mogwase magistrate court. A Board Director of Bakubung Community Development Corporation (BCDC) and Bakubung Economic Development Unit (BEDU), Mr Johannes Phologane, whom they community accuse of embezzling a whooping R700 million earned from sales of shares, and three local councillors have agreed to resign from their positions.

MEC Maine said he is confident that the matter would be brought to finality, amicably. “As the provincial government, we want to get to a point where community funds are accounted for and the community is also brought up to speed on how their monies are invested and spent. We will not allow a situation where the community has no say in profit made from the land of their forefathers, get managed elsewhere. As such, we have requested that the articles of association of all the investment companies be reviewed, to allow members of the community to be given an opportunity to elect board members’’, said MEC Maine.

Man appears for Londolozi R5m theft, kidnapping


Mbombela – The case against a Londolozi employee accused of stealing more than R200 000 in cash and transferring nearly R5m from the world famous game reserve’s bank account has been postponed to Friday.

Wade Morgan Williams, 30, was not asked to plead to charges of theft, vehicle theft, gun pointing and kidnapping when he appeared in the Nelspruit Regional Court on Thursday.

Zuma’s answer on Presidential Pardons unacceptable – DA


Cape Town – President Jacob Zuma’s answer on his process for pardoning people with criminal records was not accepted by the DA in Parliament on Thursday.

During a questions sitting, DA MP Glynnis Breytenbach had asked a supplementary question to another MP’s follow-up question on the written reply Zuma had given about Presidential Pardons.

Suspected robbers elated at release


Tonga – Two Mozambican nationals accused of robbing a shop belonging to an Indian national walked free when the case was provisionally struck from the court roll on Thursday.

Paito Khumbane, 30, and Jordaan Lazaro Nhanthumba, 26, had been kept in custody since January 26 and couldn’t hide their happiness when Magistrate Edgar Moletsane called out their names and told them to go home.

Missing files delay sentencing of poo protesters


Cape Town – Missing probation reports on Thursday caused a postponement for the second time in the sentencing proceeding of nine men who transgressed the Civil Aviation Act by dumping human waste in the departure hall at the Cape Town International Airport nearly two years ago.

Eight of the nine men appeared in the Bellville Regional Court on Thursday, before Magistrate Nonkosi Saba.

Montecasino murder accused took drugs – witness


Johannesburg – A former stripper colleague of murder accused Maruschka Robinson, who was dating Dustan Blom at the time of his death, told a Johannesburg court on Thursday that she saw both Robinson and fellow accused JP Malan take drugs a day prior to Blom’s disappearance.

The former stripper, before she began her testimony, requested and got a court order granted by Judge Delize Smith that her name not be published due to personal reasons.
