Vryburg- The Minister of Public Works, honourable TW Nxesi will hand-over a R2 million renovated community park to the Naledi Local Municipality in Vryburg in the North West Province on Friday.
Minister Nxesi will be joined by the Minister of Environmental Affairs Edna Molewa, the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula as well as the North West Premier Supra Mahumapelo.
“The Hayes Park (the park to be handed over) was renovated by the National Department of Public Works through the Government’s Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and it is a community asset that will add value to the lives of the people of Vryburg” EPWP national spokesperson Michael Mokwena said.
Mokwena said during the renovation phase of the park, a total of 35 work opportunities were created for the youth in the area.
The hand-over event will also see Minister Molewa delivering a Community Landfill Site to the Dr Ruth Mompati District Municipality while Minister Mapisa-Nqakula will lead a ceremony to unveil the sculpture of the struggle icon Mme Ruth Segomotsi Mompati which is mounted at the Hayes Park.
EPWP Phase 3 was launched by President Jacob Zuma in October 2014 and it aims to create over 6 million short to medium term work opportunities by 2019.
“The objective of EPWP Phase 3 is to provide work opportunities and income support to poor and unemployed people through the labour-intensive delivery of public and community assets, thereby contributing to the development of our communities” he said.
